I stayed at the Hilton as I wanted to take my family around the Historic Dockyards in Portsmouth. Four of us shared a room, me, my wife and our two daughters aged 3 and 8. I weighed it up against the Holiday and Premier Inns in the area. We took advantage of a cheap December sale rate of £86 for four with breakfast. The service and check-in was fine, but there were some issues with the stay.
The fire doors, or other guest room door closers outside our room were set too tight and slammed through the night, waking up all of us at some stage. The hotel is very close to the motorway so traffic noise was a problem, I probably should have checked this. The second double bed also creaked alot keeping my wife and I awake if either of us moved. On Sunday morning we were surprised to find no hot water for a shower.
I mentioned the issues to reception and received an apology, the duty manager solved the hot water issue. The breakfast was good, as you would expect in a Hilton.
In summary, you can't expect too much for what we paid, we were paying hostel prices, and some of the sleep issues may have been related to the fact it was the first time we have used a family room together. However, I did expect a little bit more from a Hilton, and this Hotel does not compare favourably with other Hiltons I have stayed in.
