“Good place to stay when on Business”

I spent a week here on business in October.

Overall I was really pleased with the stay. The rooms are all you would expect from a Hilton, although I did struggle a little to get the temperature right. The gym is very nice - clean and new equipment.

The breakfast was fine, in particular I thought there was a very good range of fruit available.

Best of all were the staff who were uniformly polite and helpful and seemed to like working there - not always typical of big hotels!

“Good experience overall”

I stayed at this hotel the first weekend in December primarily so that I could do Christmas shopping. The location wasn't great as by car it's 15 mins to get into city centre and gunwharf.
The hotel was absolutely fine better than I expected having read the reviews the room was clean with all the amenities, tea, coffee, water biscuits, tv, hair dryer, iron and board. The breakfast was buffet style and was really good value great choice of hot and cold food pastries highly recommend it. the only small point was that non smoking and smoker rooms appeared to be next to one another and you could smell smoke coming through which isn't pleasant.
If I was to visit Portsmouth again I would probably stay somewhere a little nearer to the centre however I enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel if you don't mind travelling back and forth

You found the rooms to be clean with all the amenities and the breakfast buffet to be good value. The four smoking rooms we have are located adjacent to each other in one section of the hotel so I am sorry that despite these efforts you were still able to smell smoke in your non smoking room. “Broken promises and awful customer service”

My husband and I pre-booked a non smoking room with a late check in as we were returning from our honeymoon in France. On arrival I was told by the receptionist that they only had a double smoking room or twin non smoking room, not really what we wanted on the last night of our honeymoon and not what we had booked months earlier! I complained to staff who quite clearly couldn't have cared! They told me as we had pre-paid they couldn't give us discount on the room, we ended up in the smoking room as we didn't want to be in a twin room. Unfortunately this made me ill all night. On getting home I found out that my husband had also tried to organise a bottle of champagne to be in the room to celebrate our final night away and when a friend tried to book it they advised that they didn't offer this service however we know they do and it just seemed to be another thing they couldn't be bothered with. So much for customer service. I wish the story ended there but on returning home my husband and I were so upset we decided to complain. So we sent off an e-mail and the manager of the Hilton kindly offered us one bights stay at the Portsmouth Hilton in a deluxe room, however we don't live near there and have no plans to visit so we respectfully asked if we could possibly use it at another hotel and was advised we could and they would send us a voucher! Needless to say as with everything else again they let us down it's been over a month now and still the voucher hasn't arrived. If I was you I definitely wouldn't stay here and I am not sure I will stay at another Hilton again if this is how they treat there paying customers.

Congratulations with getting married in October. Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay with us, following your honeymoon in France. I was disappointed to learn of the inconveniences you experienced. First of which was not having available the double room you booked (with a preference for non-smoking) and secondly the challenge your friend reported to you that he/she had trying to order a bottle of champagne. I sincerely apologise that we failed to meet your expectation, especially on such a special occasion. I was also surprised to read that you are yet to receive the special voucher you requested that you could use at another Hilton. Guest Assistance has informed me that the voucher has been sent and they have contacted you regarding its delivery. I once again apologise that the service we provided on this occasion was not reflective of the usual high level of service offered by Hilton hotels. I hope that the voucher you are soon to receive will allow you to experience the service that will restore your faith in Hilton hotels. Thank you again for your feedback and I wish you both the very best in your lives together as a married couple.

“Portsmouth Hilton Hotel - Good but expected more”

Booked into here for our Christmas bash - The first in a long time
The first problem we encountered was that their phone manner was very poor, expected so much better for a higher class hotel - had a few problems booking 7 seperate rooms
And then when we all turned up it turns out that they didnt have any notification on the booking! Joy!
That said the hotel is very nice, clean and comfortable, rooms were slightly bigger than I expected - and finsihed off to a nice standard
Bar and surrounding area is also very nice & comfortable
All had a meal, which came to about £1000 - staff are very well mannered and had a good laugh with them - all of our meals were fantastic and very good quality just not enough food to fill you up
Above all a good night out, in good surroundings - but could be better

“Please get it right from Day 1”

Stayed for two nights with coach party - at the first evening dinner the main course ran out. We were offered the opportunity to pay for an alternative meal or take what choices were left - I don't think so!! Intervention by the supervisor did provide us with a pleasant meal eventually - but why, oh why should a major chain like the Hilton run out of chicken breast!!! The second evening there was a great improvement and from then on food was perfectly acceptable. Breakfast was excellent.

We stayed in Room 113, which had disability facility, but the wet room drain appeared blocked and the water flooded right along to the bedroom floor - this could not have happened overnight. The water was only tepid in both shower and handbasin.

The staff were excellent and helped where they could but it does seem that chain hotels cope for business travellers and when confronted by a larger group seem to struggle. Is it the price the coach company negotiate - I don't know, but we are guests at their hotel and they accept the booking.

Cleanliness and decor in most areas was very good - just a few hiccups, but nothing major.

Would I stay there again - only as a private traveller not with a coach party and made to feel second class.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at Hilton Portsmouth. I was pleased to read that our team members (staff) and our Hilton breakfast were excellent. I was disappointed to learn that the buffet we prepared for your group ran out of chicken breast before you had any which reduced the choice of meat that was available to you. Although the chef then provided you with a pleasant meal, I can appreciate the inconvenience this delay would have caused. I therefore apologise for the inconvenience you experienced. I have also shared your concerns regarding room 113 with our Maintenance and Housekeeping Managers.
