First problem, the car park is too small. The receptionist said I could park in the street-no thanks, I want my car to still have wheels and a radio in the morning. There's a large part of the hotel jutting out into the car park & taking up several potential spaces. I don't think it's guest rooms-it could be staff rooms or offices, but it would be best knocked down for parking spaces if possible. Finding your way into the car park is a challenge in itself if you haven't been there before.
Entering the hotel from the car park in the evening you are hit by the strong smell of cooked food, which seems to permeate throughout the entire ground floor. Reception staff were pretty indifferent. From the number of people in the bar/reception area I suspect this place is also used as a local by folk living nearby.
My room was a strange shape - very narrow and elongated, with a window at the pointy end, facing the sea. It was a windy night, and the window was rattling like the chains on Jacob Marley's ghost, so I had to wedge it with some paper. Unfortunately this left a gap through which blew a draft that was so strong I could have gone wind-surfing in the bath. However, the room was clean and warm, as was the en-suite. The internet didn't work. Rather than ask the staff I went out into the corridor, stood on a chair and rebooted the router myself (much quicker). It worked after that, albeit rather intermittently.
The room service food was definitely pub grub, but I wasn't too bothered as I was only there for a couple of nights, and the breakfast in the mornings was fine.
Overall, could be much better - needs a manager with a bit of gumption.

Thank you for the review, Having looked into your booking I can find no complaint with regard wind and noise issues from yourself durng your stay, we would have glady moved you in to a different room for your second night and I can only apologise for any inconvenience, The structure you describe is a function and conference suite so as a mangement we try and make full use of the space available but knocking it down would not be an option, with regard your room service, here at the hotel we provide a full range of dining options ranging from Fine dining to "pub Grub" as we cater to a wide range of guests, all options are available as room service, if you order a "burger and Chips" there is a limited amount we can do to make it look any different. As a final point thank you for an amusing account of your stay, Chris Gilmore General Manager
