Welcomed nicely by Sheila and Nikki, the latter carried my two heavy bags up to top floor, room 10, very narrow staircase up last flight. Nice enough room, flat-screen TV hung from wall, bathtub and shower fixture. On closer notice, the full-length mirror needs cleaning, there was an old spider web hanging from the door jamb, upturned glasses were dusty, cups don’t look absolutely clean inside. A 5’4” person can see only her eyes in the bathroom mirror, it’s hung so high up. The rooms are above a pub on a busy street. Soft bed and thin pillows – I used two for sleeping on. Nothing on pub menu for vegetarians, and although it’s a free house, I was disappointed in the selection of beers (nothing very local or small-brewery). No recycling promotion. No phone or clock-radio. Loose towel ring screw. More towel racks are needed. Windows became completely obscured with condensation when cool outside. Wifi was very slow, so slow that on my last morning it didn’t work, too slow to connect. Nice selection of Portsmouth history books to borrow. Hair blower not in room but available.

Stayed here in November for the Xmas markets. Was really lovely bed and breakfast in easy walking distance (5 min) to shopping centre and quay. Spent one night here in November. We was out until late in a restuarant in the quayside shopping area. When we returned we went straight up to the room to find no heating on, however there was an electic plug in heater to use! We used it and we were fine. If I had one quibble it would be the mattress. It seemed in desperate need of replacement as springs were digging in us! Having said that for 70 pound per night we would certainly stay again, especially when you consider a premier inn around the corner was twice the price. I would rather stay here where you can have a chat and drink in the pub downstairs. The breakfast was lovely as well and very filling!

If you want good service helpfull staff this is the place to be nothing is to much bother. The friendleness of everybody was really good and even the locals where happy to talk to you. Could not fault the food and for the price they charge you cannot go wrong with staying there any time you want a hotel in Portsmouth.

Paul & Nikki of the George Hotel in Queen Street Portsmouth have certainly got it right in the short time they have been in the Pub. You are always welcomed with a friendly smile and they can't do enough to help you.The rooms are very clean and well decorated, and for the price you are getting a lot for your money. The Restaurant is very quircky and the food exceptional, especially Nikkis sunday roast.....a must try even if you are not staying at the Hotel.
