Needing one night's accommodation before attending an early morning sad event in Havant, my wife and I decided to give Travelodge a try. We found this one listed about four miles from our destination and took advantage of a special offer. We were pleasantly surprised to find what appeared to be a recently refurbished small hotel standing well back from a road junction and its traffic and fronted by an unexceptional Harvester restaurant. I had read that the hotel was previously in the Innkeeper range and suspect that an earlier review of several years' vintage on here was set in its previous Innkeeper life before its update.
The ground floor room faced the frontage and was spacious, almost adequately furnished and equipped with modern TV but not a great deal of furniture. Maybe it was because of a minimalist urge on the part of Travelodge, but the unusual open space of the room and some apparently misplaced and unused electric sockets suggest that some furniture of previous years has not been replaced. There was a double bed of course, springy but comfortable with an additional pillow (but only one) provided if needed. A table for the TV but only one chair. Possibly more bed linen, etc. could be called for but I doubt that more chairs would be supplied. A clothes-hanging area near the bathroom was equipped with adequate hangers for a short stay and the bathroom itself was modern, clean and equipped with handbasin, wc and large shower area with adequate supply of hot water when required. A small ledge was available to keep washbags, etc. to hand.
Overall our stay was very good value in clean, comfortable and modern accommodation. The helpful staff even supplied extra tea, coffee and milk supplies when asked.
The adjacent Harvester was obviously popular and well attended in the evening meal time and we got what we paid for. The staff were obviously overworked on that occasion but we also enjoyed a good, cheaply priced, cooked breakfast there the following morning when the service was excellent.
