“Not sure...............”

This is a hard one to call in some ways because I remember the D of B as a busy food led pub not the rather disinterested looking pub I saw last week. So hard to believe that this pub could not make money with the right kind of offering and service!?

Firstly the room was clean and functional, and really for £50 a night you got what you paid for. Clean & tidy room the bathroom could have been cleaner and certainly warmer - but it was only £50. Parking was a pain and meant several trips round the block - yes, you got a pass, but I would expect no less in the middle of a busy City like Portsmouth. No breakfast included but a voucher for Breakfast up the road if you wanted it - but be warned, the voucher does NOT get you a breakfast, it gets you a tea or coffee....... I passed completely on this and went to Cafe Rouge in Gunwharf where I had an excellent leisurely breakfast.

What could not be faulted was the level of service from the barman who booked me in. He helped me with all my bags from the car and could not have been nicer.

Would I stay again?? Inn all honesty probably not, but thats mainly because of the parking issues.

“Good location and friendly staff”

Stayed here the night before the Great South Run. It is ideally located in a nice part of Old Portsmouth. A parking permit was provided to park in the local residents area behind the pub. Room was small and basic but was fine for what I needed. Reading other reviews, I think the rooms probably vary quite a lot. Staff were very helpful; was able to keep the parking permit until after the run which was really helpful. They also provided a complementary breakfast on the day of the run which was very good.

“B&B means ..Bed and ??”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

Sadly this was the worst 'hotel' that I have stayed in'. No breakfast; so this added an extra £10 for a couple per night.( Voucher referred to by others only offers a free drink) Drink making facilities were provided. The travel kettle was very small and took ages to boil; only two sachets of milk were provided which meant that we had to buy some milk. Only one sachet of coffee was left (but three tea bags!!) which meant we had to buy a jar of coffee. Our room was very small and, although the linen was clean the room was not cleaned well. A sweet wrapper remained next to the bed for the duration of our weekend stay - and it wasn't even ours!!! Similarly the stairs were not clean. The shared bathroom was like a converted broom cupboard with a sink that was honestly smaller than we have in our touring caravan; a missmatched WC; a shower that was particularly uninviting; plus plenty of cobwebs!
The pubs itself is of the poole table, drinkers type, so there was no temptation (nor suggestion by the management) to eat here. The room we had was over the pub entrance which meant lots of noise at throwing out time (loud voices and motor bike engines)
The location was good, not far from the cathedral and the sea front. I would also recommend the Dolphin pub across the road towards the sea front for both drink and food. I would also recommend that people stay elsewhere.

“nice rooms but wish breakfast was included”

the "B&B" as its advertised isn't really a B&B because there is no breakfast available which is a shame because that is one of the reasons we chose to stay here but when we arrived we were told that they no longer do complimentry breakfasts because people were complaining about the lack of choice. The rooms were nice and tea and coffee were provided. its an ideal location for sightseeing, near to the seafront and a walking distance to gunwharf, dockyard etc. i did enjoy my stay here but dont think i would return as i prefer not to get up and look for a decent place to have breakfast. apart from that, the staff were very nice and helpful and its spotlessly clean

Good rooms, toilets were a bit small. Bed very comfy. The street was quite quiet for a central location.
