I stayed on Saturday 11th Feb 2012 for my wife's birthday. We also had dinner for 6.
I had read mixed reviews on the rooms and whether they represent value for money. Our initial impression of the hotel was very pleasent. Well decorated and warm with a freindly welcome. I had on the advice of the receptionist Nina booked the Canteiro at a cost of £210. It had a luxurious feel, was spacious with a large bed, a small seating area and a large bathroom with a roll top bath and a rainhead shower. The bed was very comfortable. The lounge and bar area are small but well appointed. On a sunny summers day there is a pool and a large outside verander which looked very nice. We had a table of 6 for dinner. Service was first class as was the food. You could not fault the attention to detail. The wine list was extensive but for anyone on a budget prices started at about £18 and there was loads of choice from £20 - £30. The young lady sommelier recommended a bottle of Rose at £24 which was very nice as was the cheapest Rose champagne at £47. Dinner with 2 bottles of champagne, a bottle of wine, water and coffee was £71 per head. Not cheap but we all agreed that it was a lovely night and acceptable for a special occassion. I reckon for just two with a reasonable bottle of wine you can count on £60 per head. Overall then a very good experience. Back to the point on the rooms being value for money. Can any room be worth £200 a night? Ours was very comfortable but I feel expensive and I doubt if we will stay again as we only live an hour away. We will however definately return for dinner or Sunday lunch and I would recommend to my friends.
