“Pleasantly surprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2011

My partner and I stayed at the Old White Lion for two nights and were pleasantly surprised by the standard of the inn.
Our room was large, clean and although classically styled had all the modern fittings you would expect.
Staff were very friendly and attentive and made our stay an enjoyable one.

“Great Food, friendly staff - we'll be back soon for Sunday lunch”

I had a late lunch here today with my partner and 2 year old son. We arrived after getting soaked in the rain walking up from the Steam Railway Station. The first thing the bar manager did was get us towels to dry off. We had a great lunch and I can highly recommend the delicious homemade pies. Staff were friendly and accommodating and showed us around 2 of their rooms when we expressed an interest in finding an old English place for our American in-laws to experience and we are seriously considering The White Lion for overall atmosphere, good food, great room and possibly even a ghost thrown in! I would highly recommend The White Lion for a meal or a stay. Thank you for your hospitality, we'll be back soon for Sunday lunch! “Warm & friendly ancient inn provides comfortable surroundings & good pub food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2011

Stayed in a 4 poster bed in this idyllic & quiet town. Under new management who seem to be doing their best to revamp the place & food. Food was good hearty pub grub. Staff friendly and knowledgable about the area for walks & tourist sites.

“avoid like the plague”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011

we arrived as a party of 6 adults and 5 children after a walk at nearby Sudeley , in need of lunch and a drink. Lulled into this pub by a roaring fire, cosy setting etc. Were informed the place was quiet as end of season and limited menu available, which was finee as we only wanted soup or a sandwich. What a joke! One family in the party got their food an hour before the rest of us, the waiter kept coming with food we hadn't ordered, the they had run out of baguettes, a childs' menu was a slice of bread cut in half with some cheese in it, half the food we ordered didn't arrive. When the manager was called for, the chap who owned the place said he wasn't in charge and blamed the inexperience of the kitchen staff!!!!!! The last meal that arrived(having already been sent back as it was not what was ordered) looked like they had raided a childs school lunch box, apiece of thin sliced white bread with chicken in it! No finesse, no style and certainly not cheap!!!!!
Will never go there again. would not recommend in a million years to anybody and suggest a total overhaul of staff and management

After a full review of this incident, the guest only actually order half of the food they expected, when the correct food was taken out they had changed their mind but had forgotten to notify the staff. This confused the waiter as he trusted that the guests knew what they had ordered. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay,

“sad demise of a once great business”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

Having been regular patrons over many years, we were staggered to see how far the establishment had declined. An almost empty restaurant on a Friday night when it used to be full and you had to book to get in. Sloppy service by scruffy staff. Drunks being edjected at 7pm. Friends used to stay and enjoy value for money in good rooms but not any more. We believe it all started to go wrong when a new licensee took over a couple or years ago and it shows. Great potential to restore it to its former state. I only wish I had the Money.
