“Another enjoyable stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

This is the second time we have stayed at the White Heart over the last year. This time the room was at the back of the hotel. The room was large and clean. We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast deal which was excellent value for money. Food was lovely. Our only comment would be that in the room we had this time around there was no shower curtain which made showering in the bath a bit tricky!

“Superb!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

I have some of the other reviews and have to say that my recent overnight stay that included lunch, dinner & breakfast was nothing short of excellent.
Apart from the smokey fire in the dining room, which does need sorting the bedroom (4) was very comfortable, clean and quiet, the food was really good, especially the toad in the hole for my evening meal. I found the staff to be attentive and polite, so I cannot agree with some of the other comments regarding the staff.
Overall this was a very relaxing stay with very good food & beer and my colleagues and I are looking forward to our next stay.

“Good food, terrible customer service”

We were supposed to stay at the White Hart for the weekend but after a mix up with the booking we ended up staying in Cheltenham. However we went walking in Winchcombe last weekend and thought we would try the White Hart for lunch. We were seated in a nice area of the pub but were smoked out of the room as the fire was kicking back smoke. When we moved the waitress was annoyed that we hadn't carried through our side plates/cutlery and she went of in a huff to fetch them. I then ordered some drinks and asked for condiments to go with the meal, this was clearly too much to ask and in a sarcastic tone she asked 'which job did i want her to do first?'. The food was good and it was a real shame the attitude of one waitress really let the side down. Really glad we didn't stay there for the whole weekend.

“Cotswold Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

After a long, tiring walk along the Cotswold Way trail we reached the attractive village of Winchcombe as the light faded and the mist fell. The candlelights in the windows of the White Hart were as welcoming as the staff and we were soon settled in one of the three "rambler's rooms", unfortunately though at the top of the building. I was expecting something basic but our room was very comfortable with good twin beds, flat TV,tea making etc and fluffy white towels. The shared bathroom was huge and spotlessly clean with a fantastic large power shower to ease away the pains of the day. We ate in the small, cosy "eating room" with its log fire and had the specialty sausages and good local beers and good value wine. Breakfast was excellent with real (not sliced!) breads, fruit and cooked meats and cheese as well as a great selection of cooked dishes inc Kippers and Haddock.
The decor was modern "gastropub" with stripped tables and floors and would not be to everyones taste. My only gripe at all though was that with bare floorboards, thin walls and an inconsiderate neighbour the bedroom was a bit noisy, but I suspect this was only the case for the Ramblers rooms. I would definitely come again.

“The food is worth a visit.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

My husband and I have just come back from a 1 night stay at the White Hart Inn at Winchcombe. We booked the champagne, bed, breakfast and dinner stay. Upon booking over the phone we were told that we would get their 'best room'. When we arrived we were given the keys to room 8, which was called the 'Highland Suite' obviously due to the domineering tartan drapes over the bed, it was quite dark in this room and I personally felt it needed re-decorating; loosing the tartan and dark wallpaper. We felt the room needed some attention to detail; the curtains needed re-hanging as each end had fallen off the curtain rings. Large cobweb above the window. The shower head hose was too small for the holder and constantly fell out when in use and the water in both the shower and bath drained very slowly. It is a shame about the aged metal fire escape stairs right outside the window. Having said that the bed was large and comfortable with good linen and pillows, also beautiful solid wood furniture.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal in the restaurant and thought the prices were good value, service was good and the waitress very attentive and friendly. Lots of excellent wines again at good prices.

During the night, bearing in mind this is November, the temperature in the room rose significantly, even though the radiator was switched off and we opened the window fully. We thought it may have been something to do with the hot water system, but whatever the cause it made sleeping very difficult. Finally dropped off after 4am and was woken by a cleaner vacuuming outside the door at 7.50am, (bit early for a Sunday morning!) We politely complained about the heating problem when checking out and the manager was very apologetic and assured us he would look into the problem, he also took some money off the total cost to make up for the bad night.

For quality of food, excellent service and value for money the White Hart is definitely worth a visit.
