My husband and I have just come back from a 1 night stay at the White Hart Inn at Winchcombe. We booked the champagne, bed, breakfast and dinner stay. Upon booking over the phone we were told that we would get their 'best room'. When we arrived we were given the keys to room 8, which was called the 'Highland Suite' obviously due to the domineering tartan drapes over the bed, it was quite dark in this room and I personally felt it needed re-decorating; loosing the tartan and dark wallpaper. We felt the room needed some attention to detail; the curtains needed re-hanging as each end had fallen off the curtain rings. Large cobweb above the window. The shower head hose was too small for the holder and constantly fell out when in use and the water in both the shower and bath drained very slowly. It is a shame about the aged metal fire escape stairs right outside the window. Having said that the bed was large and comfortable with good linen and pillows, also beautiful solid wood furniture.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal in the restaurant and thought the prices were good value, service was good and the waitress very attentive and friendly. Lots of excellent wines again at good prices.
During the night, bearing in mind this is November, the temperature in the room rose significantly, even though the radiator was switched off and we opened the window fully. We thought it may have been something to do with the hot water system, but whatever the cause it made sleeping very difficult. Finally dropped off after 4am and was woken by a cleaner vacuuming outside the door at 7.50am, (bit early for a Sunday morning!) We politely complained about the heating problem when checking out and the manager was very apologetic and assured us he would look into the problem, he also took some money off the total cost to make up for the bad night.
For quality of food, excellent service and value for money the White Hart is definitely worth a visit.
