“Noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

The hotel has been refurbished, but the rooms are clean but a bit scrappy. There was no headboard on our bed. Towels were a bit skimpy.
Breakfast was a mix of help yourself and waiter service. Staff are friendly and helpful, but the hotel suffers from its loaction - next to a Wetherspoons. Then people wandering past the station late at night, shouting.
Quite expensive for what we got. OK - just

Location is very good, easy to access the train station(just a few steps), bus station, and go to the centre of the town. The boss and the staffs are very helpful, clean room and bed!

I will be certainly stay in this hotel for my next trip.

“Lovely stay”

Taxi driver told us that the hotel had just been refurbished and on entering the hotel is appeared warm and welcoming. We were allowed to check in at 12pm instead of 1pm which was great because we had been camping for 3 nights and wanted to shower and really freshen up and relax. Hotel room very clean and bathroom obviously quite new. Only gripe really was bath towel could of been larger or a couple more towels, extra pillows on bed and because the building is grade 2 lited (as per the owner) the windows did let alot of noise in. This did not stop me sleeping but perhaps the rules governing grade 2 buildings could be assisted with funding to help pay for secondary glazing due to the listed building rules. The staff were accommodationg and friendly and the ownere took time out to chat with us at the bar in the evening and even at breakfast he wished us well on our journey. The breakfast was lovely with a choice of buffet and cooked breakfast. Would stay there again.

“AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Avoid

Avoid this place at all costs!

The Staff could not find my reservation and then tried to charge me a £110 more!
My room was damp with a bad damp smell!
The Wallpaper was hanging off the walls.
The refit must have been 10 years ago!
TV, no BBC1,2 and ITV and only few others!
Internet in the rooms, LOL, one bar, sometimes!
I could go on but I am sure that you now have the idea!

“Not good value”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

Right next to the train station, which meant we sort of had to stay there because the B&Bs we liked the sound of were too far out of town. Poor value, even when we bargained them down - 80 pound a night with no breakfast - the rooms were stale and very basic. You couldn't even lock the door properly. Good ale on tap but dinner at the Thai restaurant in the pub was a big mistake - the world's most expensive handful of lettuce and three small bits of overfried tofu was the worst value restaurant meal I've ever had!
But, there is some great rambling near Stroud. The Rodborough and Kings Court circular walk is beautiful - you must try the Lemon Meringue icecream from the Winstones Cotswolds icecream factory shop on Rodborough Common. A walk along the old canal towpath, being restored by dedicated volunteers, past Ebley Mill, out to Kings Stanley and then back via Selsley is another great way of spending a day.
