“It was a beautiful trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

My husband and I had a beautiful trip and we really enjoyed our stay. We stayed in the garden room and we love it. We had a very warm welcome from Jill and Brett. Brett came to pick us up from the train station and gave us a little tour to explain the orientation. When we arrived, Jill and Brett told us through things we can do, places we can eat and so on and gave us some very useful maps. So we enjoyed snack and wine they prepared for us and talked about the history of Painswick and the house.

I can't emphasise more how much we love the house. There are so many stories in this house. We regret that we didn't spend enough time to be in it and visit all antiques and paintings they have. It is just like a museum.

We loved our room. The room was beautiful with a big garden in front. We had our own entrance so we did not need to go in the main house. Jill stocked plenty of things for breakfast so we could eat whenever we wanted. She also put fresh bread on our door step every morning. JIll is really really sweet. It was my husband's birthday and as soon as she knew, we had a card and a box of chocolate in front of our door. :)

We really enjoyed the stay and we love painswick as well. Thank you Jill and Brett. We would definitely recommend our friends and might pop in again soon.

Thank you Jill and Brett! We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely visit again! We stayed in the big room upstairs with its own bathroom. The room was very nice and full of character. The main house is very cosy and we felt like at home.
As soon as we arrived we were invited for a glass of wine. Jill and Brett gave us suggestions of places to visit. Painswick is a charming little place, surrounded by other beautiful villages.
I am sure you will find something for yourself in this amazing place.

P.S If you like antiques I would certainly recommend to visit Tetbury (about 10 miles away from Painswick).

“Quite Simply World Class!”

On our fourth visit to Byfield House, our expectations (not to mention our sense of anticipation) were higher than ever. I'm delighted to say that Jill and Brett exceeded them in every way possible. Our annual pilgrimage to this wonderful place has become a real highlight in our year, and from the moment you experience their famously warm welcome, this special couple and their fabulous home will be etched on your memory, and on your heart.

We stayed once again in the Garden Room, which is the perfect hideaway from the world, offering peace, quiet and superb levels of comfort. The bed is the best we've ever slept in (which is saying something, as our own bed at home is made by the mattress makers to Buckingham Palace). Countless thoughtful touches make your stay memorable, not least the 'elves' that leave newspapers and freshly baked croissants and rolls on your doorstep each morning. The kitchen is stocked with high-quality breakfast goodies and a generous range of treats, so you can relax and take breakfast at your leisure. It's well-equipped too - one night, we even cooked up a full roast dinner with ease.

Painswick itself is a picture-postcard Cotswolds village, but mercifully free from the hordes of tourists that plague so many other villages in the area. It's ideally placed for sightseeing, and Jill and Brett's encyclopaedic knowledge of the region will help you discover all the hidden gems you could wish for. Our own favourites include Daylesford, the world's poshest farm shop, and Tetbury, the market town adjacent to the Prince of Wales' Highgrove estate, famous for its antiques dealers (with Anne Fowler and Brownrigg Interiors our must-see stores)

On the final day of our visit, TripAdvisor had just announced that Byfield House was in the top 10 B&Bs in the world. This richly deserved accolade won't come as a surprise to anyone who's had the rare opportunity to enjoy Jill and Brett's outstanding hospitality, and my only advice to anyone yet to do so is book soon before it's the Number 1 B&B in the world, and completely impossible to get into!

“A fabulous start to 2012”

I can't imagine that there could be a warmer welcome than that extended to us by Brett and Jill on New Year's Eve. Byfield house is magical - with its cosy attic room, a bulging fridge filled with treats that you never buy for yourself, portraits and rugs and piles of picture books. Nothing was too much trouble - we had all the information we could need - walks and restaurants and neighbouring towns and drives. We also thoroughly enjoyed reminiscing about Indonesia.

I chose Byfield House after reading the reviews on Trip Adviser and was not dissapointed. It was better than expected. We had booked the attic room, but due to a cancellation we were given the garden room which was just beautiful. Loved the fact we had all our breakfast supplies and more in the kitchenette and could eat at our leisure [and in our pj's]. the private laundry was a God send as we had been travelling for nearly a week and fresh clothes. Jill and Brett were fantastic hosts and so helpful to a pair of Aussies on our first big o s trip. Best value for money we have stayed in.
