“Lovely hotel, spa, food and service....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We chose this hotel online without much research and went basically because of the low price for a dinner, bed and breakfast as a special treat for us without the children!
We missed the entrance from the road too!
However, this doesn't in anyway detract from the lovely peacefulness once there and as we arrived in snow and very bad weather our room was slightly chilly. I mentioned this to the receptionist and she moved us straight away! Every other aspect was as good service wise and food was lovely. Room service orders were especially speedy. Great decor, very clean and we will be back soon!

Room Tip: rooms near the spa are lovely

“Perfect Weekend Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

My husband and I chose to stay at the Greenway this weekend after searching for a pet friendly hotel that we could make a day trip to from London. We planned on dropping off our dog and then spending some time checking out the local area, but once we arrived and saw the spa facilities we decided to stay. We had an amazing time in the hot tub (whilst it was snowing!) and sipping champagne at the spa. They also have a pool with water massage beds and a sauna which we also enjoyed very much. The room with the pool is kept warm and the pool temperature was perfect, it felt like we took an island trip in the middle of a cold winter! We stayed in the Laburnum room which was spacious and decorated in an equestrian theme in line with the fact that this room was once a part of the stable block. This is in the 'annex' although it is completely connected to the hotel and you can get to the restaurant without going outside. The only complaint I have about this hotel is that the room did have a distinct musty odor to it. The bathroom was done very nicely, slate walls and floors with a shower and separate tub. In the room was a king bed, couch, very nice flat screen TV and lounge area with tea/coffee/biscuits. It had doors at the back of the room which opened to a fabulous view overlooking the hills behind the property and also a private view- couldn't see another window of any other room on the property. Dinner was delicious, and sitting by the fireplace in the lounge with a drink while waiting for our table was delightful. We received a room upgrade for free and thought the service was above standard. We decided to go to the spa first thing in the morning so they brought our breakfast to our room so we wouldn't have to get dressed and ready before we went to the pool. Finished off our stay with massages- the massage rooms were the best I've ever seen. Definitely will be going back, a perfect place for couples but also would be a perfect place for a girls day out.

Room Tip: The Laburnum room in the stable block is large with a beautiful private view and large bathroom.

“Birthday weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We booked this hotel for a family get together - 3 couples. Location is literally 10 mins from Junc 11 on the M5, but previous reviewer pointed out that the entrance can be a bit tricky to find as it is just one signpost off a fairly busy road - I missed it and had to turn around.

Our room was really lovely, a four poster in the main house overlooking the front (Room 10 - The Willow Room I think). Large room, with four poster and very beautiful heavy curtains, so at night it was really dark. Bed was very comfortable. Large bathroom with separate shower and bath.

Breakfast was very good, we also had two dinners, we mostly stuck to the Table d'hote (£29.95 for 3 courses) - the was a good choice and couldn't fault the food - one member of the party had the full menu one night. Wine choice was fairly good.

We also used the Spa on both weekend days, it was very lovely with different showers, nice pool, good sized sauna and steam room and a cooler sanatarium - there was also a hot (very hot!) tub outside. If anything the spa was a little overheated. My partner and I had treatments which were good, if a little pricey. and one comment I left was that they didn't leave enough time between treatments for the girls, so I didn't get my full time for my facial, and the massage was about 5 mins short. The Spa on Sunday was virtually empty.

Check out was a bit of a muddle with the bill split unequally between the 3 rooms, but we sorted it out eventually. We had booked a special 'January Sale' deal with was for dinner bed and breakfast for £184 per night, they wanted to charge us for dinner the second night which was incorrect, and we had the email confirmation to confirm the agreed rate - so take this with you in case there is a muddle. All was sorted out good with good humour. There was also a bottle of champagne left of the bill which was discovered later after we had checked out, so yes, the admin side of things does need a bit of sorting out.

The staff all seemed quite young and there didn't really seem to be anyone in charge - but we did all have a lovely time and would definitely go back and recommend it as a relaxing place to stay. You can walk directly onto the Cotswold way if you go out the back of the hotel and up the lane - and it would be really good if the staff were briefed a bit more on the local walks - as it actually says they do in the room guide.

Room Tip: Stay in the main house if you can

“Lovely stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed here for two nights in january with our deal including a evening meal and spa treatment as well as a upgrade. The hotel has a lovely feel about it, very friendly and cosy with only 17 rooms making it feel like a grand house rather than hotel. We didnt get an upgrade at first but once we mentioned it we were given a different room with no problem. This room was lovely, massive and a lot of character. It had a a big bed and sofa area, dressing table and another table with dining chairs around it.

The location was good for us with pretty views from the hotel and a very nice walk up the hills behind the hotel for lovely views of cheltenham. The hotel was only 5-10mins from cheltenham and easy access to the rest of the cotswolds.

The meal we had included was delicious, canapes, starter, main and dessert were all included and very tasty. The breakfasts in the morning were also very nice and prompt.

The best thing about the hotel was definatly the spa! So nice, the pool, outdoor hot tub, experience shower, sauna, steam room and massage were so nice and so relaxing. You can sit on sunbeds around the pool which was also nice and relaxing. The gold scrub provided was also a nice touch!

The only other slight mishap was that they added some meals we didnt have to our bill but soon took them off.

All in all would definatly recommend this hotel and would love to go back.

Room Tip: The chestnut room is lovely

“Excellent hotel - good value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We stayed at this hotel during the Cheltenham Literary Festival - the hotel in town we had booked did not have space and we got a "last minute" deal here. We didn't have particularly high expectations, and as a result were very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The room was large and full of character. The breakfast was fresh, and plentiful. The grounds are delightful, I'm only sorry we didn't have a longer time to spend here.
