This is a charming, small, elegant hotel which has been very tastefully modernised. It's not cheap (by guest house standards) but the rooms are beautifully furnished and equipped - with lots of nice, individual touches - so the overall package represents good value for money. A major highlight is the staff. You get a very warm welcome and nothing seems too much trouble. I'd award a special gold star to the (female) assistant manager, who was exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful.
Breakfast was a treat; we especially enjoyed the herby sausages. If I was being really picky I'd have preferred smoked bacon, but that's just me.
The hotel is in a great location if you're visiting Gloucestershire University (Park Campus) and it's about a 15-20 minute walk to the centre of Cheltenham. Several restaurants/pubs are less than 10 minutes walk away - I'd recommend Moran's for good, tasty food at reasonable prices.
Would I stay here again? Absolutely.
Incidentally, an earlier reviewer (Jan 2012) comments on soundproofing problems between the top floor rooms. I'd just like to report that on the morning we left the builders were hard at work. I asked one of the staff what was going on. She replied that extra soundproofing (insulation) was being installed in the walls. So the owners are definitely listening to customers' concerns!
