“Aternoon tea”

My sister and I booked an afternoon tea as a treat for our mothers'94th birthday. My sister inquired whether there were any steps into the hotel, and was assured that there were none. It was in fact quite difficult for my mother to enter as there were several steps, and she is severely disabled. I requested a gluten free tea. and was given a very poor selection of tiny creamy desserts in little pots that were obviously left over from main meals, and some after dinner chocolates. The rest of the party had sandwiches , and I know there are many acceptable gluten free breads available. The room in which we had tea was obviously an anti-room as it was being vacuumed while we were eating in preparation for a wedding, and another person was having a business meeting there. Will not go there again ever.

“Great for a short break but very pricey!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I booked a two night stay here after purchasing a kgb voucher; and I stayed from Thursday through to Saturday morning. In all I had a fantastic short break and my overall hotel experience was really nice. The hotel itself is beautifully styled with an elegant bar and restaurant downstairs. I really wanted to stay in the Henry Seymour room but on arrival I was handed the key to the Theodore Gwinnett instead. At first I was disappointed, but on viewing the room and its en-suite I was quite pleased, it had a lovely décor, massive bath and plus it was on the first floor so there wasn't much stairs to climb.

As part of the deal I received a glass of wine on arrival, and a continental breakfast each morning. The breakfast was okay as it basically consisted of tea or coffee, toast, cereal and yoghurt. However i'm glad it came as part of the deal as it was priced at £16, with a full english costing £19 (very pricey!!!). I could have upgraded to a full english for an extra £6 per person for each day, but I didn't think it was worth it. The continental breakfast could be improved upon by adding fresh fruit or pastries to the menu as it was rather basic. I didn't have dinner in the restaurant as it was too expensive, but the food must have been very good as it was busy with a lot of non-residents dining in.

In general Cheltenham is a great place to walk around, the high street isn't to far away with shops, restaurants and bars nearby. I would definitely advise visiting those shops and bars for purchasing any alcohol though; as on our second night me and boyfriend decided to have a drink in the bar before we went out. But we almost hit the floor when our two drinks amounted to £22.55 which was basically our whole alcohol budget for the evening gone!!

The Hotel on the Park delivered on being a pleasant home-from-home, making it the perfect short break destination. The service, room, cleanliness and location topped the chart, but the continental breakfast and price left a lot to be desired.

Room Tip: Go for the Theodore Gwinnett cosy, modern, good bed, nice views, massive bath, first floor

“Great location but only stay there if you have a voucher as it is not worth the money!”

We booked a room through kgbdeals and even though we booked 4 months in advance they had no kgb rooms left and therefore we were told we would have to pay £50 to upgrade to a spa room. We were told we would be given the jossiah stacken room which had a jacuzzi bath and a seperate power shower however when we arrived we was given the Clifford room which only had a normal bath with a light in it therefore we were disappointed from the start. We couldn't get any hot water to run a bath, no tea or coffee making facilities in the room and the room was a little dated however the bed was the biggest bed I had ever seen with lots of big pillows.
The best part of the hotel was the location, it's is a 10 minute walk to the race course and 5 minute walk to the town.
We ate in the hotel on the first night using a voucher that made the meal half price. For 20pound per head the three course meal was very nice, the menu was basic but the food all tasted nice however it wasn't worth the full price of £40 per head especially when there is a large selection of restaurants at 'the brewery' just a five minute walk away.
Breakfast again had limited choice but was nice when we got it. The waiters in the restaurant were very friendly and welcoming.
Overall I would stay in this hotel again if it was £50 per night however I wouldn't pay any more than this!

“WOULD stay here again”

I stayed here last Sun/Monday on a Dealcloud voucher. From making the initial booking to arriving i found the staff polite and helpful. The man who greeted us(boyfriend stayed too) offered to carry our bags up 3 flights of stairs to our room, although my boyfriend insisted on doing it (he has been training quite a lot lately and i think he wanted impress me with his strength ;-)) i was suitably impressed.
We stayed in The Duke of Wellington room and it was wonderful, huge bed, lots of comfy pillows and plenty of lamps made for a cosy classy ambience.Lots of people have complained about the lack of tea and coffee making facilities but this wasn't a problem to us,we knew in advance as enough people have moaned about it on here. The lady on reception printed us a map of where to head for in town and she was really friendly and helpful.
We had a 3 course meal in the restaurant which was very nice and included in the deal. The next day we had breakfast in the restaurant which was fine,a little stingy on butter that's all.The staff are very polite and proffessional,to be honest you don't really know that they are there.Later we drove around the Cotswolds and ate out at a pub/restaurant.We had a great time and came back to find more clean fluffy towels and a tidy bedroom. We had a great stay and can't complain as we had a very good deal.We overheard one guest complaining "It's outrageous"!! that there was no tea or coffee in the rooms but to be fair she was very pompous and OTT.We would stay again on one of these deals it was worth every penny ;-))

Room Tip: Duke of Wellington room is great,no tea and coffee making facilties in rooms. There is a mini bar but...

“Has a certain charm”

Despite a little trepidation - having read some of the rather hostile-sounding reviews - we really enjoyed our stay and would certainly re-book for another visit. The house is beautiful and characterful, the staff efficient and friendly, our bed supremely comfortable, our suite (Duke of Gloucester on a coupon) spacious, well-appointed and excellent value. Breakfast was flawless and served at a sole table laid in the graceful surroundings of the library looking on to an enchanting courtyard garden.

Yes, one can validly argue that the spa bath installation is rather eccentric, and that tea and coffee making facilities should be available in the rooms, but in summary we enjoyed a comfortable stay in lovely surroundings at a price (with the coupon) that is about half of that charged for an equivalent suite at the Hotel Du Vin (where we usually stay in Cheltenham).

Room Tip: We stayed at the
