I booked a two night stay here after purchasing a kgb voucher; and I stayed from Thursday through to Saturday morning. In all I had a fantastic short break and my overall hotel experience was really nice. The hotel itself is beautifully styled with an elegant bar and restaurant downstairs. I really wanted to stay in the Henry Seymour room but on arrival I was handed the key to the Theodore Gwinnett instead. At first I was disappointed, but on viewing the room and its en-suite I was quite pleased, it had a lovely décor, massive bath and plus it was on the first floor so there wasn't much stairs to climb.
As part of the deal I received a glass of wine on arrival, and a continental breakfast each morning. The breakfast was okay as it basically consisted of tea or coffee, toast, cereal and yoghurt. However i'm glad it came as part of the deal as it was priced at £16, with a full english costing £19 (very pricey!!!). I could have upgraded to a full english for an extra £6 per person for each day, but I didn't think it was worth it. The continental breakfast could be improved upon by adding fresh fruit or pastries to the menu as it was rather basic. I didn't have dinner in the restaurant as it was too expensive, but the food must have been very good as it was busy with a lot of non-residents dining in.
In general Cheltenham is a great place to walk around, the high street isn't to far away with shops, restaurants and bars nearby. I would definitely advise visiting those shops and bars for purchasing any alcohol though; as on our second night me and boyfriend decided to have a drink in the bar before we went out. But we almost hit the floor when our two drinks amounted to £22.55 which was basically our whole alcohol budget for the evening gone!!
The Hotel on the Park delivered on being a pleasant home-from-home, making it the perfect short break destination. The service, room, cleanliness and location topped the chart, but the continental breakfast and price left a lot to be desired.
