I booked the Sun Inn at Dedham instead of my usual Travel Inn at Ipswich. I arrived late on a cold autumn Sunday evening. I was warmly welcomed at the bar and expained I was later than expected as my journey had been difficult. I noticed that last orders for dinner was 9.30pm and I was 5 minutes past this time, 9.35pm!!
I asked, with some trepidation, if there was any chance of food. Knowing I was late I would not have been suprised, or offended, if the answer was "no". Instead the bar man cheerifully said no problem if I ordered quickly. What a refreshing change from some national chains that I frequently stay in. After a quick freshen up I came down to the bar and was offerered a tasting of any of the draught ales, thats a nice touch. A super pint of local ale was consumed at a good pace (well deserved after a very tedious journey!) I was shortly presented with an excellent selection of warm breads and was offered a variety of wine by the glass. My risotto arrived, very fresh and clearly prepared with care. My room, "Constable" was very comfortable, linen sheets, flat screen TV, and a super bathroom. It was also very, very clean. Little touches such as water, tea and coffee and a selection of magazines made me feel very at home. Following a very comfortable nights sleep I made my way to breakfast. An excellent choice of meats, cheeses and freshly baked breads was given up in favour of fried local free range eggs and rashers of organic bacon. Even the fruit juice appeared freshly pressed. All in all a great stay and when I was presented with the bill it was £40 cheaper than my usual travel Inn bed breakfast/evening meal. The nice thing about this place is that the staff are genuinely interested in making your stay enjoyable.
All in all a very enjoyable stay, next time I will ensure I arrive early enough to savour a full dinner!!!
