“Bike Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2010

We stayed at the Avondale as a stop off on a bike ride to Paris. We pre checked that the 7 bikes could be stored which they could. We were greeted warmly and also given good advice on a suitable place to eat in the evening. We were also treated to a hearty breakfast which was served up half an our early to meet our ferry time. The Avondale is great value and suited out needs perfectly.

“Great bed & breakfast - convenient for local sightseeing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2010

My wife and I chose Seaford because of its proximity to Brighton and the South Downs. We stayed two nights at The Avondale. As mentioned in other reviews, there is only street parking, but I had no problems finding a spot near the hotel. We called ahead to let them know we would be arriving later than anticipated, and when we arrived, Martin was very helpful in getting us quickly checked in and settled. Both Martin and Jane provided much appreciated advice about the local area. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious, and even though they seemed to have a lot of guests while we were there, our food was quickly prepared and we enjoyed a leisurely beginning to our day. The room was a little tight, as we had an extra bed for our 8 year old daughter. There was no problem with noise even though our room was next to the street, and the bed was comfortable. My only (very minor) complaint was that the place had a strong air-freshener smell to it. My wife and daughter did not seem bothered by it, so maybe it's a "guy thing". My family and I would definitely stay there again.

“Seaford is not a tourist hotspot but the Avondale is a good base for exploring the area, comfortable and good value.”

I needed to find somewhere near Lewes to accommodate 9 friends in either twin rooms or singles for an annual walking weekend. Finding accommodation that is near to a decent walking route with excellent views, close to rail links, near to a town with good but not rowdy pubs, that is reasonably priced is not easy. The Avondale ticked all of the boxes. Close to the South Downs, and a rail link to Lewes (last train back 23:56).

The room was clean and comfortable, plenty of tea and coffee, fresh towels, and even some chocolates. Breakfast was good with plenty of options particularly useful for the vegetarians in the party, one of my friends was very complimentary about the scrambled eggs and salmon.

There was a fault with a shower, which when raised with the owner was resolved professionally to satisfaction.

Best of all - a free bottle of water on your bedside table. I stay in a lot of hotels and pay ridiculous room rates, yet still have to buy water. Well done Avondale - nice touch.

“Superb service, excellent staff ensuring a thouroughly enjoyable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

13 of us. ranging in age from 5 to 72 stayed over the August bank holiday week-end as we were attending a family wedding. Prior to our arrival Jane & Martin offered to prepare an evening meal for us, which was excellent. The hotel is a short walk from the town centre & sea front. The care we received whilst there was excellent, all the rooms (we had 3 doubles, 2 family , 1 single) were clean & tidy adequate facilities. Our breakfast table was laid out as one long dining table so that we could eat together & breakfast is cooked to order. As we were ready to leave for the wedding Jane took photos of us which she printed out & gave to us a breakfast the next day. The only slight drawback was the lack of a car park but there was space in the quiet road in front of the hotel. I have already recommended this hotel to friends & would certainly stay there again.

“Immaculate B&B with friendly and helpful owners”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2010

This B&B is located near the train station and within 10 minutes walk from the sea. Room and en suite bathroon very clean. In the room there was a generous supply of coffee/tea/chocolate and biscuits plus bottled water. There are no reserved parking spaces but as Avondale is situated in a quiet residential area , it is quite easy to park on the road.
Ideal for touring the Sussex countryside.
