“Great little hotel and perfect for an overnight stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

My husband and I took our little toddler to stay at this hotel for New Years Eve along with a number of his extended family. We only usually stay in 5 Star accommodation so were a little apprehensive about a 3 Star hotel. We arrived in the afternoon and had drinks in reception. We found our room to be very pleasant with a nice view over the harbour, roomy and clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. They are dated but they had everything needed; a nice big comfy bed, TV, hairdryer, powerful ensuite shower and dressing table. At 7pm we gathered for the nights entertainment; a buffet dinner - the tables were decorated wondefully with crackers, balloons and small gifts and the dinner consisted of a mix of Indian, Chinese and English dishes. All very yummy and plentiful - you could consume as much as you desired. Once the food was cleared, the dancing begun and the DJ was great. The evening culminated in a 10 minute firework display. After a good nights sleep, we met for breakfast which again was a buffet consisting of cereals, pastries, juices, tea, coffee, toast and a full English breakfast. Absolutely delicious - I could have easily consumed a great deal more than I did but...New Year resolutions and all that!! The whole break was very very reasonably priced and although it is not the Ritz, it was very pleasant, clean and comfortable and we have booked to go back next year. Rye town itself holds many dear childhood memories for me so we enjoyed a wonderful walk through the cobbled streets before jumping back in the car and heading home.

“Affordable accommodation, close to Rye centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Stayed in a ground floor room which was clean and comfortable. The shower was very good and there was an ample supply of hot water.

Staff were friendly and helpful.

Large free car park is a real bonus.

5 minute walk to the centre of Rye.

“Great staff, very tired rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

Not the best place to stay, bathrooms have left a damp smell in the rooms, very poor shower pressure. All rooms are tired, and desperate for a refurbishment. Generally the rooms were very clean - just quite a lot of cobwebs - the cleaner did everything at eye level and below.

The staff however, are fantastic, despite there not being enough of them. There appears to be an expectation that the reception staff can deal with guests checking out whilst serving breakfast.

Food is reasonable, although regularly the restaurant is closed in the evening. So not ideal if you are a business guest who was hoping to stay in. Although I will say there are much better restaurants nearby which are within walking distance.

Overall (dependant on what you pay) this is a reasonable property, but don't expect anything wonderful. Some rooms are better than others, and try to avoid ones which are on the main road. Also bear in mind there is no wifi in the rooms - although you can get it in room 19 - so may be worth asking for it if you are there on business. You can access wifi in the reception.

Room Tip: Room 13 or 19.

“Comfortable!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

Rye is such a cute little town, although as you walk to the hotel it feels like you're no longer a part of it. Fortunately, our room was lovely and comfortable, bigger than our apartment, and after our 12k walk to the beach, it was a delight to take an afternoon nap.

The staff were very friendly, and the view of the river and boats was sweet. Good value for money.

Rye is gorgeous, although since we had sat in all the coffee shops in one day, we probably didn't even need to spend a night.

Room Tip: Room facing the river was very quiet

“Great Staff, Hotel looking tired!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

This was always our preferred Hotel in Rye as the staff have always been great, the rooms comfortable and the price reasonable. However although the staff are still very friendly, helpful & deliver excellent customer services. Unfortunately, the rooms have gone downhill and aren't maintained to a high enough standard to command £90 a night. Its little things such as a shower that was not very powerful, fixtures and fittings that had been damaged and not repaired properly the dressing table that did not have a chair. Our room was also above the kitchen and we heard the extractor fan from early afternoon till late at night. These things on their own we would normally excuse but unfortunately as a whole really disappointed us.
Ovarall, the rooms are very spacious but, the hotel is looking extremely tired & requires a re-furbishment throughout. We also noticed the housekeeping has declined and everything felt sticky including our breakfast table & felt the cleaning wasn't as tip top as it used to be.
