My friends and I (4 of us) had a glorious time at the Rye Lodge Hotel. We arrived on Thursday, November 17 and departed on Monday at 6:30 a.m. The premises were elegant, the staff professional and quite pleasant, the dining experience was excellent. Almost perfect, and then late (around midnight), on Sunday night/Monday morning, one of the male employees (a rather large man), used his key and entered each of our rooms unannounced, scaring us, as you can imagine, half to death. We thought his behavior was rude and inexcusable, and could cause the hotel severe problems. His excuse was that he wanted to leave a note regarding our very early departure as no one would be at the desk when we left. I'm almost sure he didn't mean any harm, but he had to know that he displayed inappropriate behavior.

Rye Lodge deeply regrets this incident and fully understands the guests' reactions. We apologize unreservedly for the actions of the employee who has been severely disciplined over the matter.
This part-time staff member has many years of experience in the hotel industry, so Rye Lodge's management find this obvious and uncharacteristic lack of judgement inexplicable. He has explained to us that he believed the guests concerned still to be out of the hotel, however it has been made very clear to him and to ALL Rye lodge staff that unannounced entry into guests' room is inappropriate at ANY time of the day or night, and that such behavior will be treated as a dismissible offense.
Future guests can be assured this will NEVER happen again.
