“Another great stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

Returned to stay at The Dorset, (changed name 5 years ago!) yet again great welcome, friendly attentive staff. Room clean, pleasant & comfortable. The main plus for the stay was the food, WOW, varied menu, caters for all taste buds, super specials. The thing we like is as everything made on site and cooked fresh to order we could 'tweak the menu' to suit our preferences. We shared a Seafood Platter to start, we asked to changed the crayfish to king prawns and if possible to added a bit of lobster, the chef Paul was brilliant, came table to check how we wanted the lobster cooked, real personal service! The fish sharer was lovely, well presented & tasty and the lobster divine. For mains we both chose from the specials board, I chose a poultry mixed grill, a great choice with 6 different meats all cooked to perfection, my partner chose halibut, tweaked with sauce & veg from another dish, yet again no problem, the whole team were very accommodating. Later, quite a while later we shared a Rhubarb gratin dessert with coffee, perfect, what a great end to a brilliant relaxing evening. Now I know why we came back and The Dorset did not disappoint, role on visit no 3!

“All you could want”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 March 2011

We stayed on Friday evening, planning a trip into Brighton on the Ssturday. We started by enjoying a few beers in the bar, where the atmosphere was very friendly, welcoming and gave us a chance to relax after our journey. We had a fabulous meal in the restaurant, and had difficulty deciding what to choose as the menu and specials board were packed full of delicious temptations. I opted for the muscles to start, which were plentiful and packed with sweet potato and chorizo, fabulous, followed by the rib eye steak with horseradish mash which was to die for. My partner opted for the ham hock terrine which he said was a taste explosion, followed by the lamb shank - even better, the meat fell away from the bone. By this time, I was completely full and would have loved any one of the delicious desserts on offer, but couldn't manage it, however, my partner decided on the rhubarb gratin which he says was out of this world. He said that each course just got better and better. We rounded off the night with a few more drinks in the bar with fantastic company. We stayed in room 3 at the front, which was a very large, clean, comfortable room, and tastefully furnished. A very quiet, comfortable nights sleep. Breakfast in the morning was very leisurely, and again, a gorgeous full english, although there were other choices on the breakfust menu, as well as cereals, toast, fruit, juices etc. All the staff in the bar and restaurant were very friendly, courteous and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and feel that the people of Lewes are very fortunate to have such a fabulous place to eat right on their doorstep! Although we are not ale drinkers, you could not fail to be impressed by the extensive list on offer. On the issue of parking, we only had to pay £2.10 after 6pm in the pay & display opposite the pub, which took us round to 11am - bargain, so didn't have to rush off out in the morning! Would recommend to anyone, whether just visiting briefly or overnight - you must try the food!!!

“great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2010

A real find. Friendly helpful staff, Comfortable, big room, SUPERB food, good location, good value, and all the amenities of a pub without having to leave the building. If all pub accommodation is as good as this we'll definitely stay in pubs again
