“A warm welcome”

We drove past the entrance of this Guest House a couple of times in the dark before spotting the sign, but once there we were given a warm greeting outside the building and shown our room which was literally through the french doors facing us. The room was clean and comfortable, the only downside being the shower, which had no tray so the water just ran under the curtain across the whole bathroom floor. This meant that to use the toilet or sink after a shower had been run you would get wet feet. Breakfast, having been ordered the night before was pleasant, as all in all was the stay. The dogs were delightful and had we been better prepared we may have brought our own as I believe pets are welcome here.

“Quirky retro B&B, lovely owners”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

My (American) husband and I stayed for two nights in October. It is set in a quiet location off the main road and is somewhat difficult to find. There is a security gate with a code to get in. The couple have two huge freindly German Shepard dogs who wanted to join us in our room. We had the Garden Room which is on the ground floor right next to the kitchen. It is a nice room with a faint air of the 1970s about the decoration. However its proximity to the kitchen meant that cooking smells permeated the air and it was fairly noisy at times. We had to keep the sliding doors shut in order to keep the dogs out. The bathroom was large and had all the luxuries you could want. The very copious and delicious breakfasts were served in the conservatory with a view onto the back garden. The 1970s air was continued with the decor there as well as the Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin songs being payed in the background. Daily newspapers were provided and it was all very relaxed and lovely. It was like being back in my parents' house! The couple who run it are extremely nice and gracious. They also have at least one cat so if you suffer from allergies be aware.

Room Tip: Do not choose the Garden Room unless you are disabled. Rooms upstairs would be better.

“Clean, courteous, quiet, and very good value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

We stayed at this B&B, which is situated about a mile from central Hastings, on a Saturday night in December. The first thing that really impressed me was the location - it's set back from the main road by some distance, so you're isolated from any traffic noise or neighbours.

The property is very 'homely', with a permanent aroma of cooking, and the attention of cats and dogs. The owners are very friendly, polite, and helpful. The beds and bedding are well above the standard for guest-houses and hotels, and the breakfast was especially well-presented.

This B&B represents excellent valaue for money, and is easily my favourite of all the establishements I've tried in Hastings and the area. Although it's a moderate distance from the town centre and the seafront, I'd sooner arrange the journey into town than stay at an inferior property closer to the nightlife. At this price, there is no need whatsoever for the Travelodge 50 yards away.

Room Tip: We stayed in a double room with a private bathroom (separate). I had a nose into some of the other...

“Why stay in the Travelodge next door!?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

My Mum and I stayed for 2 nights - 27th-28th November...we called and spoke to Liz to advise her that we were on our way from the station only to be offered to be collected by Liz in her car! We chose to walk as it is only a short 10 minute walk so we thought...don't Google a walking route ask Liz or Alfredo for directions! Once we had walked the WRONG way to Summerfields House, we were very warmly welcomed by Alfredo, who immediately asked if we needed any help with our bags and shown to our room, Alfredo showed us around the room and gave us some instructions on the facilities within the room. We filled out our registration form and breakfast options and settled in. What a little delight our room was (Peonies), both Mum and I were very impressed with the cleanliness and lay out of the room. The bathroom is a knockout treat with the 35 jet jacuzzi bath! After taking advantage of the tea and coffee facilities, fresh milk and water in the mini fridge too! We decided to walk the RIGHT way into Hastings after Alfredo gave us a map with personal recommendations of the good restaurants hand-written on the map...we found an Italian on the edge of the old town which was lovely and well priced!
Walking off dinner back to the guest house, we settled in for the night, a jacuzzi bath later, we slipped into bed!
Breakfast the following morning - was ready when requested, hot and freshly cooked was delicious, choice of cereal, juice and preserves too....FAB!
Spent the day in Hastings enjoying the range of shops, including a big Debenhams which Mum was impressed with, visited the Fishermans Museum (free of charge but donations welcomed) and travelled on the East Hill Lift - this is a must for the best views of Hastings at Sunset - this runs until 4.00....
Dinner was at Whites - Fish Restaurant which was very busy and we were lucky to get a table without booking - so do BOOK! This was FAB - to taste the fish of Hastings so fresh and very reasonable price wise too! Do look for the specials....
Back to the guesthouse to be greeted by Liz and Alfredo who asked about our day!
Another jacuzzi bath later and then bed after a busy day walking around Hastings!
Breakfast yet again was a delight and I would make a personal recommendation of the eggs benedict!
Check out by 10.00 and walked to the station with regret that we hadn't booked to stay longer!
A fabulous stay, was made to feel very welcome left feeling very relaxed and well cared for!
Finally, why oh why would you stay in the TRAVELODGE next door, with Summerfields House on the door step!
Thank you to Liz and Alfredo for making our Hastings stay so lovely!
I am booking to stay again in the New Year and bringing Hubby this time!

Room Tip: Peonies - balcony with a sea also take advantage of the jacuzzi bath!
