“A Winter Oasis”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

What a winter oasis! Excellent value for money, Urban House is ideally located, away from the hustle and bustle of The Lanes but within walking distance of the ocean, the Pier and great restaurants and pubs. The room was clean, well equipped and comfortable (very comfortable bed, great water pressure in the shower - two holiday must-haves!). The staff welcoming and lovely and the breakfast, whilst not bacon and eggs and all the trimmings, very satisfying, healthy and satisfactory.
The spa was just delightful! The treatments were well timed and relaxing, delivered by attentive, friendly staff in a mood enhancing, musically perfect, warm and tranquil environment.
Go for just the spa or just the stay but combine the two and you are assured a fabulously relaxing and truly enjoyable weekend away!

Room Tip: We had room number 12 at the front of the building with a lovely view of the square and the ocean be...

“Evert reason to return”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

This was our 2nd stay at Urban House. On both occasions we felt we got good value for money and it suited our purposes perfectly - that is a comfortable, quiet, clean, reasonably priced base for a short visit to Brighton. As an extra to all this the decor is attractive and the staff are welcoming and helpful. For example I forgot to pack body lotion and was expecting some to be provided with the other Elemis bath stuff. I asked the gentleman on reception if he had some. Half an hour later a bottle of Bulgari lotion was brought up to the room. He could just as easily have said "No".
We were given a lovely room - 12 - with a view of the sea and the end of the pier. It had a balcony and a four poster bed. The pillows and other bedding were really nice. The hotel is well located, only a few minutes walk into town and in the centre of Kemptown. We have stayed at Drake's before and although that is fantastic, the price difference is huge. We will have cause to visit Brighton again several times and I see no reason why we won't be planning to stay at Urban House at those times.

Room Tip: Room 12 or any seafacing

“Not worth the money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

Very expensive for what it is. Bed very uncomfortable, pillows so bad that I ended up needing physio on my neck! Room clean but lacked attention to detail such as no mirror over dressing table and very small bath towels. TV remote did not work. Carpets in hall and stairs very stained.Breakfast passable but uninspiring. The only really plus point is it's location and view from the front bedrooms.

“Visit to 'spa'”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

I didn't stay in the hotel but hope it is better than the spa experience. I visited in December with a friend for a treat and whilst the staff were lovely the experience was much more Fawlty Towers than their website depicts.
If you are looking for a relaxing time I would recommend paying a bit more and booking elsewhere. Thermal suite? Steam room that can fit 3 (circa 1970) and a cold sauna. Relaxation room? 2 loungers and a broken radiator so a bit too chilly to relax. Towels smelt musty, but had to put up with it as it was so cold in the relaxation room. Shower tepid and door broken, no toiletries. If you move from the lounger to the shower you can be seen by guests coming in and out of the front door. In fact, if the front door was open, you could be seen in your cossie by people in the street. Massage was fine but you can do better in a standard chain hotel for overall experience and it will be cleaner. The place looks nothing like the website.

“Lovely little place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

I stayed here in October 2011 and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. The continental breakfast was lovely. Yes the furniture is a bit old but it was very clean. I had a wonderful massage in the spa and would recommend the hotel to anybody. I have stayed in many places in Brighton and I have booked this same place again for November 2011.
