We stayed here for just the one night as we were in the City for my Grandma's funeral.
Booking was simple; very friendly and communicable emails sent from Chris and Terry.
On arrival we were extrmemely lucky to find a spot right outside Number 14 - I would imagine in the summer months this could proove something of an event! Chris and Terry provide 24hr parking permits for £6 which is helpful.
Chris and Terry are very welcoming, genuine and friendly hosts, helping with luggage, offering maps and sharing local knowledge.
Located about 5-10 min walk from the main shops and Lanes, Number 14 has a theatrical type theme which piccys of Marilyn Monroe and the like - tastefully done and certainly not over the top. The rooms are warm, cosy and clean with attention to detail - rugs, homely throws, pretty cushions, plenty of soaps, handwash, shampoo & conditioner, hairdryer, iron and board, and a lovely tray of tea, coffee and cookies. No big deal but could have done with an extra small/medium towel as I had to use our hand towel to dry my hair.
We had room number 4 on the second floor at the front of the building. It featured a massive Queen bed which in my personal opinion needs a new mattress as it had a few bumps and dents! My husband thought it was absolutely fine though. Due to habit (and a noisy husband) I wear ear plugs and am glad I remembered to pack them as the noise of the main road probably would have disturbed me. But once again, my husband thought it was absolutely fine. The one thing that we did agree on though was that the pressure of the electric shower wasn't that great. However, on a positive note, there was always nice hot water.
The morning breakfast was absolutely gorgeous! Perfect infact! Loads of lovely cereals to choose from, whole fresh fruit, yoghurts, juices, homemade jams, vegetarian/english full breakfast and lovely fresh toast, washed down with every type of tea imagineable! I ate so much I could have popped! But everything was soooo lovely!
I am used to staying in hotels all around the world being Cabin Crew, so I am not an expert at rating Guests Houses/B&Bs but overall The Bannings at Number 14 seemed like a very nice welcoming Guest House that I would definitely recommend and stay in again.
