“Perfect B&B”

This was our second stay at Whitburn Lodge, last year we stayed in the 'attic room' which was delightful although the stairs did prove a bit too much for my husband! This year we stayed in Room 1 and we loved it. We would not stay anwhere else in Brighton as it is so clean, comfortable and Louise and Phil are lovely hosts. The breakfasts are the best we have had and we look forward to staying here again next year.

“Go on spoil yourself, give it a try!”

In mid-October we spent three very pleasant nights at Whitburn Lodge. We stayed in Room 1, their largest room. The room was not as large as their website photograph would suggest, but perfectly adequate for our needs. The room and en-suite were both spotlessly clean and adequately stocked in terms of toiletries and hospitality tray – the bed was very comfortable. WiFi Internet availability at a good speed was greatly appreciated.
On our arrival we were warmly welcomed by co-owner Louise – who had kindly placed complimentary chocolates and flowers in our room to mark the 60th birthday of my wife. Louise also very kindly put the bottle of our champagne she found in our room on chill so that we could enjoy it at the right temperature when we returned from our exploration of Brighton and surrounding area. Later in our stay we also met co-owner Philip and found him to be as equally charming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for either of them.
For breakfast there is a good choice of yoghurts, fruit, cereals etc. as well as a choice of freshly prepared cooked breakfasts that ranges from full English to smoked salmon bagels and vegetarian. All the produce is locally sourced and tasted just great.
Whitburn Lodge is located about 2 minutes walk from the promenade and beach and a similar distance to the excellent array of dining and, to a lesser extent, retail premises on Western Road and Preston Street.
If in Brighton again we would not hesitate to return to Whitburn Lodge – go on spoil yourself, give it a try!

“Fantastic B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

I was looking for a cosy b&b with a few rooms to rent for my wedding weekend. After some research, I found the Whitburn Lodge. When I visited it I thought that it would be the perfect place for my family and friends. The experience was better than expected. Phil the owner was the perfect host, making all of us feel at home (he even went to the effort of translating the menu into Spanish for my family) Oh, that breakfast! It is true what it is said about brides not having much of an appetite the day of the wedding, however I cleared my plate with pleasure at breakfast time. Location was ideal, 2 minutes from the beach and very close to one of my favourite pubs in Brighton. The rooms are clean and characterful, with very comfy beds.
I can't thank Phil enough for making my wedding weekend such an enjoyable and memorable time.

“Fantastic Short Break Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

A very charming little B&B situated right in the heart of Brighton.

We were greeted on our arrival by Louise, the owner. She showed us to our room and was offered fresh tea or coffee. After a little chat she realised it was our first visit to Brighton. She then produced a map and recommended a number of good restaurants and things to see during our stay. We subsequently visited some of these and the restaurants were spot on. It is clear that she visits these regularly and as a result you get a good honest opinion which we found was a much better recommendation than those places we found using guides or the net. The Chilli pickle particularly was superb!!!!!!

The hotel itself is a large Victorian town house. The location is perfect as you are about a minute walk from the sea front and about five minutes from the main shopping areas. The room we were staying in was a good size and well furnished. The bed was very comfortable!!! We were also surprised at how quite the room was as we were facing the street out to the front. The only slight criticism was the bathroom. It was a little small and most rooms only have the option of a shower only. That said this is an old Victorian property and the layout would be difficult to change. As we were only there for a few days it did not cause us problems as most of the time we were out.

Breakfast was a wonderful experience. There is a choice of yoghurts, fruit, cereals etc. There is also a choice of cooked breakfasts which include full English to smoked salmon bagels. All the produce is locally sourced and tasted fantastic. It is also free range/ organic/ ethically produced where appropriate. Louise was also happy to chat and seem to make time to speak to all the guests even though she was preparing breakfast.

We have seen comments on the price but this is very much a case of you pay for what you get. In a crowded market like Brighton’s, this is one place that definitely stands out. Well recommended and will be back on our next visit.

We booked this B&B for a weekend away after reading the great reviews on this website. Whitburn Lodge lived up to expectation! Louise and Phil are fantastic hosts and couldn't do enough to help - we were really grateful for local tips and knowledge about the area.
