“Have you ever been shut out from a hotel? I have!!!! in Amblecliff!!!”

About one and a half ago, I booked one room for 3 nights. My flight was scheduled to arrive at about 17.15 at Gatwick. But it left with a 2 hour delay. And as it is usually the case with UK flights at this time of the year that students fly there by hundreds, there was more delay waiting to collect my bag at the airport. When I turned on my mobile I saw someone had called from Amblecliff, As we all know mobiles are off on board. When I called them back there was only the telephone machine saying they were not available and in case someone wanted to make a reservation they should visit their site. I took a taxi . The hotel was dark and closed and nobody was there waiting for me, nobody had left a key for me next door, no matter the fact I had paid the 1st night as a deposit. On their site they refer that check in is up to 6pm, in which case they shouldn't accept guests travelling on flights scheduled to arrive in the evening, as delays in flights are typical. It is a suable case.

Rooms are small and the place is run down and has a smelly dog that the owner alouds it to go in the dinning room when your eating.

“Well Looked After”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2010

I really enjoyed my stay at Amblecliff and felt so well looked after, it was lovely. Elaine and her staff were so friendly and helpful and I was made to feel really welcome. The hotel was extremely clean, breakfasts were fantastic and the bed very comfortable. However the walls were pretty thin (and I wouldn't recommend this to a honeymoon couple) although the seagulls probably made more noise. It's not five star but makes very comfortable accommodation and I'd definitely stay there again.

“Excellent middle-of-the-road B and B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2010

If you want luxurious surroundings, this is not it. But if you want a comfortable room, good quality big bed, hot water in the shower, quiet in the evening, fresh air, great breakfast and wonderfully warm and helpful hostess, then this is your place. It's two blocks from the beach and around the corner from so many great restaurants and pubs you won't be able to try them all. It's a five minute walk from the city centre and right on several bus lines. I suggest requesting a room that faces the back of the building as the front-facing rooms do have some street noise and can be rather warm in summer. And the carpeting is old, not dirty. They vacuum every morning!
