“Relaxing and welcoming, very central!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Maralyn Monroe room at the top of the house over the BH weekend and found it very peaceful. The hosts were accommodating of our needs and pleasant to talk to! The room was spacious and airy and overlooked the road but wasn't in any way disruptive of sleep. The breakfast was spot on, nothing else was expected and we were entirely satisfied with our stay. The shower was a bit noisy but the room was clean and ideal for a long weekend! I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Room Tip: Top of house prob better for privacy, quiet etc.

“Good short stay in great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

We stayed 3 nights in the James Dean room and had a good time in lovely Brighton. The location is great and a short 20mins walk from the station and round the corner from loads of restaurants / bars etc. (Muang Thai round the corner was fantastic) but we had no problem with noise at all - apart from the odd squarky seagull - but that's the beauty of being so close to the sea! The room itself is quite small as others have said, but it was fine for us and our limited luggage, good comfortable bed, the bathroom is behind a slidey door in the same room, and quite narrow and basic, but good powerful hot shower. Overall, we found it good value for a short weekend stay - as there is such a difference in B&Bs in Brighton in terms of value and prices, and there are others that are perhaps a bit swisher/plusher and more modern but we found it good value and just what we needed. Good straightforward breakfast and cheery smiley service at all times - thank you very much.

“Great value for money and would definately go back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011

Me and my partner recently stayed here for my birthday and considering what other similar b and bs are charging cannot fault the place. The guys that own Colson are a great laugh and really friendly and kindly recommended a couple of restaurants which were fab. We stayed in the James Dean room, and it does warn in advance there isnt much room for storage etc but we stayed from a Thursday to Sunday and had no problem with this. Considering how often we used the room etc it was perfect for us, the ensuite was fine and we didnt have a problem with it at all. I personally thought the choice for breakfast was great, there was fresh juice, filter coffee, tea, fresh fruit and cereals and then a cooked breakfast and rounds of toast. Considering how much other establishments charge for breakfast I thought it was great being in with the price. The positioning of Colson House is great too, just a short walk from st James Street and in Kemp Town and a real short walk from the pier, yet far enough away to not be kept awake by people all night. All in all I would definately use this place again when I next return to Brighton :) great job guys! Only thing id say to any people going to Brighton, I would always try and use public transport to get there as the parking is poor around the whole of Brighton.

“Nice people, poor breakfast and dodgy water supply.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011 via mobile

We were booked into the james dean room but had to be moved because the shower kept cutting out. The shower in john Wayne wasn't much better. More than once we were given new towels that had not been washed and left fluff everywhere. Also, there was no choice or menu for breakfast and what we got wasnt very nice.

“Went above and beyond expectations”

Not only do Mark and Eamon run an attractive and tidy guest house, but they're both terrific to talk to, give wonderful advice about the area, and have great senses of humor. When I left my watch at Colson House by mistake after leaving, they were also willing to mail it ahead to my next destination before I left the country, without charge or complaint, for which I can't thank them enough.

The rooms, delightfully, are themed after famous classic film stars.
