“Stylish and Chic Boutique”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

This hotel was much better than we expected. We entered our room (superior double room 7) and were amazed at the stylish decor and swanky bathroom. Fresh fruit and flowers were provided in our room every day, i even tipped the chamber maid. Bed was comfy and cosy ... room was spacious and light. Did get a little warm in the room as we were quite high up in the building but fans are provided in the rooms.
Continental Breakfast served to a great standard, couldn't have asked for more.
Hotel is close to the seafront, ameneties, pubs, clubs and a short walk to the town centre for shopping.
Parking is roughly £1 per hr between 9am-6pm cheaper than parking in the car parks overnight in Brighton which we have had to do before at other hotels in Brighton.
There is only 1 down fall for this hotel and that would be the fact that there is NO lift so it is a case of lugging your baggage up the stairs and getting a little out of breathe if you are not downstairs.
We booked our room for 2 nights but liked it so much we stayed another night in a different room (Room 1) which also has a massage chair but to use at a cost.
We are now going to book our return for another 3 nights at the end of this month. I will definately be recommending this hotel to others.

Room Tip: Superior/King doubles are more spacious Rooms 1-5 if you dont want too many stairs Rooms higher...

“My default hotel for a weekend away from London”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I stayed here a few years back in a King Room on the first floor. Great room and an inspiration for the decor in my flat in London. Very stylish and gorgeous bathroom.

So for a fun weekend away in Brighton this trip I had no hesitation in choosing the Square again. I booked through booking.com but secured a standard double thinking it was the king room. I contacted the hotel and asked if I could have the same room as my first trip but they explained my mistake but offered to upgrade me to a king should one become available. Unfortunately none became available but they upgraded me to the reverse penthouse in the basement for a minimal charge...... and what a room!!
It's actually more of an apartment, with big lounge, designer kitchen, jacuzzi etc. A proper pad away from home. We certainly made the most of it.

The staff were very helpful and I really can't thank them enough. I will be back and the sooner the better. A highly recommended a funky hotel.

Room Tip: King room or reverse penthouse are the way to go.

“Perfect location but....”

I treated my boyfriend to a weekend away and being a fan of Mr & Mrs Smith hotels, this seemed ideal.
Really brilliant location - 30 seconds walk from the seafront and 10 mins to the pier so couldn't have asked for more, plus a reasonable walk to the Lanes and train station, easy with a backpack!
I really liked the style of the hotel, but our room (number 2) was rather small. Didn't realise it would be an inside view, therefore the shutters were kept closed otherwise would have been a view of some rooves.
Nice decor in the rooms, but not a fan of bathrooms where the door is a bit of sliding glass - I like my privacy when using the bathroom. Someone was trying to be a bit too cool, and got it wrong by rforgetting what a bathroom is for. It was also very stuffy and smelt a bit damp when we came back to the room because we couldn't open the windows!
Staff were brilliant, breakfast was simple but tasty.
Really would recommend this but not based on previous Mr & Mrs Smith experiences - just a simple but cute property in a superb location. I think probably I just expected too much.

Room Tip: Request a decent view

“Could not bear to stay. Checked out after 20 minutes. Paid £100 for it.”

Good location. Staff moderately helpful. Went up to third floor on a narrow staircase (no lift but that not uncommon for Brighton). Small dingy room. Cold and drafty room. Hard bed. Bathroom not clean. £3 per can of coke in minibar, £8 to serve breakfast in room.

Could not bear to ruin a romantic weekend by staying there so checked out after 20 minutes. Never going back.

“Perfect weekend retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Loved the low-key, friendly attitude of the staff - felt like staying with friends rather than a stuffy hotel. Room was excellent, very comfortable bed, big bathroom with bath and shower. We were on the first floor with nice view of the sea. Felt totally relaxed at the end of the weekend. Breakfast was excellent - we asked for it to be brought to our room on the first morning and there was a great selection.
