Booked Gullivers on the morning of arrival on their own web booking for, stating that I would be there at 2pm (they have an option on the form to put your estimated time of arrival). Managed to park the car nearby, it was a cold damp day, but the car had been nice and warm so walked to the hotel in just a shirt. Rang the bell and someone came on the intercom asking my name. Gave my name and told to wait. Asked my name again and told to wait. Asked to spell my name and told to wait. Asked to spell my name again and told to wait - by which time I was freezing and said this over the intercom, but asked my name again and told to wait. So I fetched my coat and put that on. Then told to walk down to the hotel two doors down and let in. Asked my name again and in the end I showed them the confirmation email on my phone. The guy then said that he had seen my booking, rifled through some papers and found it, then sent back with a woman to the first hotel and let in.
The room was small and basic but the internet price was good, I would have been devastated if I had paid the full double room price (for single occupancy).
The waitress at breakfast was hassled, everyone seemed to have turned up at the same time, but with only a one hour slot to serve breakfast it seems likely that there will be a breakfast rush! But it has to be said the waitress was lovely, and coped extremely well and was always smiling, and the breakfast was good.
I probably would stay again, but I was mightily disappointed by the welcome, knowing it to be such a cold damp day I could at least have been let in to the lobby. First impressions count!
