“Steer clear if you want some peace!”

We found the Queen's hotel online and booked mainly because the price seemed fair. We were upgraded to a familiy suite which was nice although the living room had been made up with a sofa bed and a single bed so wasn't really much use. What prompted this review was the nightmare scenario at breakfast. There was a group of four or five adults which had between them about 5 kids who were running riot. Both inside the restaurant and around the reception area next to it, screaming, shouting, total carnage. But of course the modern parents pretended that nothing was happening and just chatted to each other. When I mentioned it to the girl on reception when we checked out, she just said 'it's up to the parents to control them'. No it isn't, the staff need to speak to them. Being on the seafront it was also extrmely noisy with drunk people yelling all night long outside. We would never return purely based on this experience.

This hotel experience was by far the worst I've had and made me sign up to trip advisor (a site I'd previously been opposed to but now I understand this is the only way to warn the unfortunate!).
Foolishly I didn't check this site before going. My girlfriend thought she'd surprise me with a night in Brighton for our valentines weekend. The night started off ok, minus the moody receptionist who told us we had to pay upfront, something I seriously regret as I would have refused to pay otherwise.
The rooms themselves are very nice- as they should be for the money. However, as the nigh progressed and we got gradually more and more tired the noise got worse and worse.
Turning off the tv revealed horrendous noises which were impossible to block out because the shabby windows had holes around the frames so we might as well have tried sleeping in the street. Being surrounded by 3 clubs and a bar meant the incessant thumping off crappy bass vibrated the room all night. Drunks walked back and forth, and stopped under our window shouting and swearing and being generally drunk.
This would not have been a problem if they'd correctly sound proofed the room!
By 3:30 we couldn't take the noise so we packed our stuff and went to the desk to complain. The receptionist insisted that she was unable (incapable) of changing us or doing a refund so we demanded a taxi and the managers number.
Foolishly optimistic we thought we'd get our money back but only receive £40 which is ridiculous for such an expensie room. From what we gathered from the staff this was not uncommon as they spoke about "noisy rooms".
Do not stay here, for sleeps sake!

“Nice hotel, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012 via mobile

just got back from two nights at the queens hotel, stayed weds 8th - fri 10th feb 2012.

the hotel was easy to get to from the train station, easily walkable as its all down hill but i got a taxi because i was freezing, this was about £5.

check in was quick and easy and the staff on reception nice and friendly. the girl who checked me in asked if id been before and i said not for a long time so she gave me a map and pointed out where certain things were like the lanes and the royal pavillion which was really nice and very helpful.

i stayed in room 202 which was a double room with a seaview. the view was faced the west pier and the front entrance of the hotel.

provided in room was a kettle with plenty of tea and coffee supplies and biscuits.

there was also a hairdryer in dressing table draw.

the room was very spacious, more than enough room for two people. the bathroom was quite small but the bath and shower itself were nice and big and there were lots of towels.

there was a bit of noise but nothing over the top, some creaky floor boards and slamming doors.

on the thursday night there was a bit more noise from the outside - there are quite a few bars near the hotel and i could hear people shouting outside but it didnt stop me from getting to sleep and you are in a busy party/university town so of course theres bound to be some noise .

breakfast wasnt anything special but its included in the price of the room so you can't really grumble and there was always a good selection of hot food, toast, cereal, yogurt, fruit and croissants.

i used the restaurant for dinner one night as it had started to snow and i didnt fancy venturing out into the cold. i went down at 9pm and got there just in time because the kitchen closes at 9.15pm which suprised me, i thought it would be open til about 10pm, so be aware if your going out and want to get a late bite, you'll have to find somewhere near the hotel, but that shouldnt be a problem as theres loads of restaurants and take aways in the area.

the hotel has a luggage room where you can store your luggage so you can do some exploring before you check in or after you check out.

the hotel also has free wifi which was a nice bonus and the tvs have freeview.

i would stay at this hotel again and recommend it to someone if they were looking for somewhere to stay in brighton.

“Must stay here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012 via mobile

Just came back from a 2night stay here.

Excellent location for the sea front, shops and bars/restaurants! We had a room at the back on the 2nd floor and yes we heard the noise at night but it wasnt as bad as people say. Brighton is home to the university of sussex so its obvious there will be students clubbing!! Not the Hotels fault!

Swimming pool and gym is more than enough for what you want. And breakfast is great!

The only complaint i have is the cleaner, she tried coming in but we were just getting ready for swimming so we asked her to come back in 5mins. We were swimming for an hour, got back to the room and it was not cleaned. Was having a shower and she decides to try and come in then. In the end she did not clean the room until 2pm!

Would definitly return and reccommend to friends!

“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Stayed at Queens Hotel on a trip to see Thin Lizzy at the Brighton Dome. We chose it for the location (10 minutes walk to the Dome and on the seafront) and it did not disappoint in either respect. I had booked a double room with seaview and on arrival we were given a free upgrade to a family suite. This consisted of a double room with seaview, another room with a sofa converted to a double bed and a single bed and a bathroom (bath and overbath shower). There were televisions in both rooms and a fridge in the bedroom. Coffee & Tea making stuff and biscuits! The converted bed had been made up so I phoned to Reception to ask them to turn it back into a sofa for us. They promised to send someone up at 5pm "when Housekeeping came on duty" and true to their word someone appeared and did the necessary. This room was at the corner of the building so had a sea view and a view of the promenade. We didn't really need all the space (would be great for a family of 5) but it was very pleasant sitting in the "lounge" having a drink before going out. The sunset was stunning. The bedding and rooms were clean and tidy, although overall the hotel is a bit tired and could use a lick of paint here and there. There was a chunk of plaster missing off the edge of the bath (see photo). However, this is a very small negative - the staff, from the Receptionist when we arrived, to the restaurant staff at breakfast the next morning were unfailingly cheerful, friendly and helpful. After the gig we came back and had cocktails in the Bistro Bar - again friendly people and not mega expensive either! We found the bed a tad firm but that is just to personal taste. Breakfast was the usual buffet, Good selection of cereals, porridge (yum) and hot food. A bit of a scramble as the layout is not great (eg the toaster is in a corner so creates a log jam as everyone waits for their toast!) but otherwise plentiful and tasty. Cheery waitresses. All in all very acceptable and would definitely go back. Only real caveat is there is no on site parking. They tell you where the nearest is (giving a map and directions) which is £23.00 for 24 hours. There are others cheaper a bit further away and there are a few a parking spaces next to the hotel which cost £2.00 per hour. (between 1800 and 0900 free) However Brighton is compact and walking the short distance is no great deal.
