“Lovely!”

Very small, very cute guest house. We stayed in the suite at the very top of the hotel - not so much an effort to get to, as lots of the reviews mention!! Beautiful room, very shabby chic.. shame about the finish on one of the walls - I believe there was a problem they were looking into at the time. Comfy bed, good bath, and despite the very drafty windows very warm. (must have great radiators as was -3 outside!) Also very yummy breakfast, and got to see some live music in the bar one evening too with a cocktail which was on the house. Would love to come back on our return to Brighton! Thumbs up!

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012 via mobile

We just returned from a mini break at the oriental and were both so impressed. It was like staying at a dear friends house! Our room was stunning, with beautiful touches like aromatherapy light, lovely furniture and the comfiest bed ever! The team were lovely and even gave us a late checkout as I came down with a cold! All in all it was a memorable stay and would recommend the oriental to anyone wanting a little bit of luxury and pampering, but want to stay away from big chains and predictable hotels!! Thankyou oriental! X

“Just right in Brighton”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Staying at the Oriental was a thoroughly pleasant experience from start to finish and we will definitely choose this comfortable, attractive and welcoming hotel on our next visit. Having spent some time researching options, we were not at all disappointed on arrival. The fact that the hotel was full, on a chilly but sunny day in February, is testimony to the Oriental's reputation. The decor matches what it says "on the tin": boutique standards. We were greeted warmly but professionally and shown to the cosy room, which although small as the title suggests, did not feel cramped thanks to the high ceilings and large window. The quality of cleanliness and of toiletries and refreshments was equally high. The hotel is in a perfect location for exploring the city. The breakfast was very well cooked and presented, with excellent service.

Room Tip: The cosy room was fine for a 1 night stay and looked out onto a tiny courtyard.

“Friendly Personal Service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

The people at this hotel are very friendly and made us feel very welcome. In reality it is more of a smart B&B than a hotel but provided this is understood there will be no disappointments. The room was clean, somewhat cramped but not excessively so. The breakfast was excellent. All in all a nice place for a weekend break.

“one night stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Greeted on arrival that was the last time i saw any staff we must have been the only ones in the place.Due to an early dentist appointment i booked a packed breakfast it was dumped in a Waitrose bag outsid our door at 9pm must have cost at the most £1 oat bar, yogurt ,apple and a kids drink not exactly what i needed cosidering i would not be able to eat the rest of the day due to extractions.Apart from our very nice room the rest of the building was deserted. Not very good value at £69 wont be stopping when i have my follow up treatment

Room Tip: Be prepared fo a climb up several steep flights of stairs, no disabled access at all

Thanks Roger for your valuable feedback and we are disappointed you were not happy with your stay. I think we need to point out that the Oriental is a guesthouse and not a hotel so guests looking for a receptionist to be visable 24 hours a day together with 24 hour room service will be disappointed and should seek a hotel. Instead we offer a friendly personal welcome and service to the guests in our 9 rooms, together with our cocktail bar facilities, imparting our local knowledge to help them maximise their stay in Brighton. When reception is shut, there is always someone on call to assist guests if needed.
The packed breakfast, comprising a cereal bar, organic yoghurt, honey, orange juice and some fruit, usually a banana, was designed as a courtesy to those guests having to leave early, usually for flights, to tie them over until they could find a proper breakfast. The contents of the packed breakfast were detailed to the guest on booking so it should not have come as a surprise to him but we are currently reviewing the packaging having regard to our environmental policy.
We do try to contact all our guests before arrival to check their special requirements and to advise those guests who are likely to be located on the upper floors. If given prior warning, we will always try to accommodate our guests' needs.
