“Terrible”

Do not stay in this dump.
I was fooled by the ok website where the hotel goes under the name "West Beach Hotel"; only when we turned up did we see that it was the "Sprachcaffe" and that it was an expensive youth hostel type place. I had no idea of this place's reputation and wouldnt have bothered.
Forced to sign a form stating that we would pay for any damages upon check-in, I was alarmed to see that someone had taken the batteries from the remote and the bulb from a bedsite lamp. What they hadn't taken however were some upturned nails/pins lying around on the carpet which nearly went into my boyfriend's feet
Breakfast on the first morning was an experience. If you wanted a nice leisurely continental breakfast, you were in for a shock. Two tiny pieces of cheese, four tired slices of tomato, some cheap strawberry yoghurts, cold coffee and stale bread were not terribly appetising. And that was for two of us. Nicely finished off by music on the tv blaring at 600 decibels - at 8.30am no less!! Must be the German version of a wake-up call.
I didn't bother the next day.
Too hot in the rooms, would have been able to see the sea if the windows hadn't been covered in an inch of grime.
Noisy (there is a loud bar underneath), its a busy room (until they all go home at 4am), unprofessional, no customer service.
I should have gone to the Premier Travel Inn and paid less for a clean, comfortable room and surroundings.

“Nothing worked!”

I made the mistake of staying in these seedy though not inexpensive lodgings in spite of the adverse reviews. The only thing one can commend is the view;the service was nonexistent, the staff amateurish, and the room phone and television did'nt work.A never to be repeated experience!

“good for one night and one night only!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2003

The toilet leaked. The shower leaked. There was a connecting door to the other room that we could not lock. There was a disco in progress when we returned to the hotel after our evening meal that seemed to attract the worst possible looking people. The people in the rooms beneath us spent most of the night running up and down the stairs screaming at each other in German. The continental breakfast the following morning consisted of a serve your self buffet of stale croissants, ham and cheese uncovered, a dangerous looking toaster in which you placed the stale looking bread provided, and a half drunk jug of orange juice. BUT we had a beautiful view of Brighton's seafront, the room was huge, and the hotel was situated nicely within walking distance of many restaurants and pubs. For £40 for two people you cannot argue that you get what you pay for, I just would not recommend staying there any longer than one night.

“ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2003

This is the worst hotel I have ever had the displeasure of staying in...EVER!!!We were taken to our room, and as we entered I could not believe the sight before me. The carpet was filthy, the windows were both broken, there was mould around the bath and generally the whole room was very unclean.I immediately went to reception, who told me that they could do nothing for us, so we were stuck there. We spent the evening away from the hotel and returned at around 11.30 to go to bed - we were very reluctant to get in!!At 3.45 in the morning we were woken by the phenominal sound of the fire alarms!!! We made our way to the reception area, still half asleep to see staff running round in a panic, not knowing what was happening. Nobody told us what was going on, then around 45 minutes later a man told us it was fine to return to our rooms. The next morning we were very pleased to leave!!A few days later I decided to E Mail the hotel manager telling him of our unhappy stay. That was in Dec'02, it is now March'03 & funnily enough I haven't heard a word!!!
