“Never ever again”

Booked this hotel for two nights fri 28 Oct- 30 oct 2011 for a weekend trip to Brighton.
The hotel was along walk from the station, after being told by a member of staff that it was within walking distance.
First impressions of the Imperial from the outside were, looked nice. That soon changed when we walked towards reception.
The staff seemed more interested in looking at the computer screen then us.
We told them that we had a twin booked for the weekend, yet when we went to the room it was a double room.
After informing the young lady behind about the error she inform us that she will check for another room, without apologising
After about 10 mins she gave us another room.
As I entered the room the first thing I saw were unmade beds and a dirty room.
I again went back down to reception and told the young lady about the room. Again no apology was given
She seemed more interested at looking at her computer screen then us.
She informed me that she could get housekeeping to separate the double bed in the first room but it would take 30 mins,
I asked why this could not be done before we checked in, but was ignored. I then asked if the bar was open to be told yes, but no offer was given to show me where the bar was, when I did find the bar, I found it unstaffed and went back to reception as ask for a member of staff to attend the bar.
The young lady informed me that she would be a few mins as she was busy doing nothing.
I waited 15 mins and still she was busy doing nothing, so I again asked her if she was serving, at that point the manageress said she would serve us.
I explained my problems I had with the hotel but was informed that the hotel had under gone a new staff intake, lol why do hotels always use that excuse.
Finally we went up to the room and after unpacking checked around, there were about 4 double electric wall sockets, but only one seemed to work as the plugs would not fit.
The windows looked like they had never been cleaned as there was a thick patch of bird muck.
When I complained to reception the staff did not seem to understand, did not look at me, all they seem interested in was looking at the pc screen, I really wanted to know what was so interesting on that screen but did not want to confuse the busy hard working staff, that was a joke btw.
As 2 of us were staying in the room we asked for another key in case we returned at different times, we were informed that the hotel only had one key but the night staff would let us in.
We returned at different times and when I returned I asked to b let into my room , but was told that my mate was already in there as the key was not there, I know but its 4am and he is sleeping, after a few mumbles to himself he finally told me to wait outside my room where he would follow me to open it.
Could it get worse I thought to myself as I went to bed, yeah at 8:26am a knock on the door from housekeeping, as I opened the door all I got was sorry but no explanation as to why she had knocked.
When I returned on the sat night again I was met with the attitude, after asking to be let in my room.
On the Sunday at 8:15 again I was woken up by housekeeping asking me what time I was checking out. I did say I thought check out was after 10am yes she said and walked off.
At this point I just wanted to get out of there and get home.
On check out again I was not really looked at, nor was I asked if I enjoyed my stay.
Our weekend was spoilt just because of lack of service staff who did not understand English and a very dirty room.
I would never stay in this dump again, would not mind if it was cheap but £80 for 2 night room only per person is a little high for a dump in hove not Brighton

Room Tip: stay away from this place

“Ok, but not again!”

Stayed here for 3 nights on business recently. The hotel layout is a bit of a warren something I accept I guess from an old building, the decore in the majority of the hotel including the rooms is decidedly dated and is need of renovation. Breakfast on each morning was chaotic to say the least with inexperienced staff running around like headless chicken, normally you have to ask them several times for coffee etc. The staff are friendly without being overly helpful.

The Imperial is located approximately 40 minutes walk to Brighton town centre.

There are an abundance of hotels along the front in Hove/Brighton so I'm not sure I would stay there again.

“There are worse in Brighton”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed it, the rooms were clean and comfortable. It isn't a noisy hotel either so we could have a lie in.
Breakfast was good too. This is not a luxury hotel though.
Windows could do with a clean but other than that the rooms were good. The hotel does need updating but its not terrible. Just old fashioned.
There are some really bad hotels in Brighton so this one was a pleasant surprise. I have stayed in a hotel where there was a foot print on the pillow case and burnt bed sheets.
Our rooms were spotless and staff lovely.

If I had read the reviews here then of course we never would have booked this hotel, but it was a last minute thing and we didn`t have a chance to consult TA. Took us ages to find the place as it isn`t actually on the sea-front, but just a few yards up a side road. When we saw the entrance we were tempted to keep driving. Do not be decieved by the web site photo of the hotel. My husband went in first, ( although he was all for doing a runner ) and asked to see our room. The staff were happy with this and now I can see they`re probably asked this a lot ! Some of the photos and descriptions of rooms written about here are revolting, but we were in an excecutive ( ! ) room and it was quite reasonable, if it hadn`t been, we would have left immediately as the rest of the hotel is horrible. Our room was clean, and well decorated, the bathroom was unexpected with an enourmous sunken jacuzzi and very modern fittings, it was sparkling clean. The staff were helpful and professional, but then, we were there for one night and had no problems for them to sort out. We didn`t eat there, just a small breakfast, again the staff, although rushed off their feet were polite and helpful.
Really, this hotel needs major refurbishment and huge investment. It`s quite beyound me why the owners don`t appear to care about their reputation and the awful reviews on TA,
