“service was simply fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2012 NEW

We went to Brighton for a hen weekend (of course!). Our rooms were nice, breakfast was great and reception staff was very helpful.
However the reason why I decided to write the review is Martin. I guess he is an assistant manager. Martin was the most helpful host from the Friday evening till Sunday when we were departing. The level of the service we received was more then a 5* hotel, and he played a big part to make our weekend a memorable experience we will never forget. It is so true - staff makes the biggest difference. Martin - THANK YOU.

“FiftyFifty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2012 NEW

Stayed 23 - 25 May 2012 in a standard room on 3rd floor back. No idea what more expensive rooms were like so can only speak from own experience. Room was good size, bed was lovely and comfy. Being at back away from lifts (room 316) it was lovely and peaceful. Room and bathroom very clean but the desk chair was stained and the back had a hole in it and the windows were very dirty, as well as the frames being scruffy. There was some limescale on taps, and no soapdish so soap kept slipping into basin. Bath could only be filled via shower and using a loose plug, no way to switch water supply from shower to bath mode. However, the shower was great with lots of hot water and easy controls. Loo flush was inadequate, requiring up to 6 goes to clear. Curtain was hanging off rail at top, but this was immediately sorted out by hotel staff once reported to Reception. No writing paper in desk, which is usually the case. We only had breakfasts at hotel, and these were a disappointment. Scrambled eggs were rubbery and just warm and served in a dish with a broken cover handle. Bacon was just about warm, sausages were lovely on day one but almost rubbery skinned on day 2. The toaster was old and scruffy and slow. On the 2nd day milk at table was served in a drinks glass instead of a small jug - why? Both days I had to ask for a knife to butter my toast - here the staff responded immediately, and tea or coffee was in constant supply. However, for me the absolute worst thing was that the plates were cold instead of being placed in a warmer, this meant that your food was cold before you had finished eating it especially as it had only been warm in the first place rather than hot. All these are small things but if put right, would make a huge difference. Here I do have to say that all the young people working there were were smiling and helpful.
As to the hotel itself, in places it is glorious, in others a very faded glory, almost neglected, with knobs on banisters missing, chipped wood and a worn carpet. I cannot speak for the spa, as I did not use it. However, all the staff, and in particulary, the lovely young gentleman on reception, were just super, welcoming, friendly and extremely responsive and helpful. If they were only supported more in environmental terms, they would make the place perfect.I hope they are valued by the management, who I feel are not investing enough in the place, or who do not have the money to do so. Despite all this, I did actually enjoy my stay, I just kept feeling that a 4 star hotel was "just out of reach around the corner".

Room Tip: Don't worry about lack of a view at back, as these rooms are quiet.

“Stylish hotel with great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2012

I've just come back from a night away at this hotel for me hen do. We were a group of eight girls and found the hotel clean and stylishly decorated. During our stay we used the spa, which was, again, clean and tidy. We also ate lunch, dinner and breakfast at the hotel, which was pleasant and tasty.

I also want to highlight the fact that the service at this was impeccable, staff in the hotel, spa and restaurant were friendly and customer orientated. There was the right balance between being over familiar and not giving a hoot!

I would definately stay here again and would highly recommend it to friends.

“Kwerky - yet good location and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2012

Booked this hotel ' blind' off lastmin.com as part of their ' secret hotel' site . So when I read the previous review I was apprehensive but was pleasantly surprised and pleased! From the start - despite the purple curtains - the young receptionist was welcoming and helpful . He engaged us well and was helpful. The room itself was welcoming and qwerky ! My only criticism was the difficultly the fixed shower panel made it difficult to get in / out bath ( plus water pressure was not good) . Bathroom was clean but could do with re sealing/ grouting.
Location good and parking good. We did not have breakfast / food so can not comment . The building was fun and stylish mixed with feeling of bring in a Disney set at times!
Check out was nice and the same receptionist remembered us from check in and asked if we had enjoyed the concert we had come to see- major chains lack that personal touch! I did not get his name but it was his birthday yesterday - and If management read this he deserves a raise !!

“Great staff, great lounge area”

Booked this via Top Secret Hotels and was very worried by some of the reviews. I need not have been. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful - full marks to reception desk, one of the best I have ever encountered. The room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated. The bar and communal areas were very comfortable. My only critcism is that it's not really Brighton (more Hove) and a good 20 mins walk to main area. This does limit your activities. It was also not that cheap without breakfast. £200 for 2 nights via Top Secret Hotels without breakfast so there are cheaper options. Comfy beds and lots of extra tea and coffee when we asked is a big tick!!!
