“Great location, needs to improve cleanliness and hospitality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2011

I had prepaid 5 nights at this hotel for a conference because of its great location AND its recommendation by the conference organizers. Obviously, no one had bothered to verify because the common areas were dirty and unpleasant smelling (see photos) . I wanted to walk out immediately but it wasn't possible unless I wanted to forfeit my payment. SO I arranged to leave one night early. I spent the last night in Brighton at a large chain hotel around the corner on the water where the room was comfortable and clean, smiles all around, great service, very quick response to a small repair in the room and a delicious breakfast with tremendous choice - all for the same price the Adelaide House was charging me.

I stayed in room 28 (double for single use) on the 4th floor so dealt with the dirty stairs repeatedly. The AH is run by a couple and their 2 adult children. The woman who served me breakfast each morning never smiled. The breakfast was very mediocre - burnt toast with hard butter, dry tasteless sausage, canned fruit or whole fruit, no fresh fruit salad despite being mid April.

The light in my shower wasn't working. I told them the first afternoon on my way out. When I returned it was still not working so I took my first shower int he dark. I reminded the woman at breakfast the first morning. When I returned that day, I had light in the shower but none in the front part (see photo). Apparently, it was one or the other. When I left 3 days later, it had still not been fixed. The best part was the KitKat bar left on the tea tray each day.

Room Tip: room rates seem overpriced during conferences

“Great wee find”

Under pressure to find a good, cheap hotel/guest house as reviews for many were terrible. First visit to Brighton so was delighted to find the location was great for not only the beach but also for the centre. Staff were friendly and there if you needed them. Stayed a weekend and expected to hear noise during night from local bars etc but not a peep. Room was very clean. A bit cramped but was informed of this when i booked over phone. Did have a balcony which helped. Only faults were the bed was way too soft and the sausage in my breakfast tasted pretty off and gave me a dodgy belly (nothing to do with the alcohol the night before!) Decor is so out of date but actually gives the place some character in a kind of faulty towers kinda way! I would recommend if your not bothered about some fancy dan place and want to save some pennies.

“Perfect place to stay in Brighton, lovely room, lovely breakfast, lovely staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

Me and my partner have stayed here a couple of times for a nice weekend away. The hotel is really central, right by the beach and round the corner from the shopping mall and within walking distance of all the local attractions...it's also within walking distance of plenty of restaurants, bars and clubs but far enough away that you can still get a good nights sleep! The staff there were really helpful and breakfast in the morning was delicious...you can choose to have a fried breakfast, cereal, fruit, yoghurt and lots of fresh fruit juice and tea and coffee and you could ask for more if you're really hungry! All in all this is the perfect place to stay in Brighton, me and my partner really enjoyed our stay, I would definitely recommend staying here and I will definitely stay there again!
