I had prepaid 5 nights at this hotel for a conference because of its great location AND its recommendation by the conference organizers. Obviously, no one had bothered to verify because the common areas were dirty and unpleasant smelling (see photos) . I wanted to walk out immediately but it wasn't possible unless I wanted to forfeit my payment. SO I arranged to leave one night early. I spent the last night in Brighton at a large chain hotel around the corner on the water where the room was comfortable and clean, smiles all around, great service, very quick response to a small repair in the room and a delicious breakfast with tremendous choice - all for the same price the Adelaide House was charging me.
I stayed in room 28 (double for single use) on the 4th floor so dealt with the dirty stairs repeatedly. The AH is run by a couple and their 2 adult children. The woman who served me breakfast each morning never smiled. The breakfast was very mediocre - burnt toast with hard butter, dry tasteless sausage, canned fruit or whole fruit, no fresh fruit salad despite being mid April.
The light in my shower wasn't working. I told them the first afternoon on my way out. When I returned it was still not working so I took my first shower int he dark. I reminded the woman at breakfast the first morning. When I returned that day, I had light in the shower but none in the front part (see photo). Apparently, it was one or the other. When I left 3 days later, it had still not been fixed. The best part was the KitKat bar left on the tea tray each day.
