“Disappointing experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

I stayed at this hotel for two nights. As part of the Hilton chain it would have been fair to expect a decent standard of accomodation, but the hotel was disappointing.

A classic seaside hotel, I'm sure this hotel was great in its glory days. However, it's all looking a bit tired now.

The hallways all smelled of the chlorine from the basement leisure centre - right up to the sixth floor. Our room was very small, stuffy and over-crowded with furniture and the decor was tired and tatty. There was barely room to turn around in the bathroom. Half of the tv stations didn't work.

Unfortunately, some other inconsiderate guests made a lot of noise outside our room in the night - not the hotel's fault, but if the rooms were a little better sound insulated it wouldnt be an issue. Sadly, this was made worse by staff hoovering outside our door at 9am on a Sunday morning - something the hotel can control.

On the plus side, the location is good, all the reception and bar staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel has some good facilities.

If you go - just make sure you get a decent sized room!

“Work trip”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Positives - great seafront location in a lovely town, Great views from the sea-facing rooms which are very large. Nice lobby and good breakfast
Negatives - rooms are large but tired, the corridors, spa and bedrooms could do with an update and room service is the same as every other Hilton i.e. basic.

Room Tip: sea view rooms are larger and have balconies and/or good views

“Great central location on sea front”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This hotel is very big, I stayed as part of a hen weekend and had a very pleasant stay. The staff were very friendly and the hotel is very grand with lovely period stair cases and lobby. The breakfast is also excellent great selection and things get refilled quickly which is good as it can get busy. The restaurant for breakfast has an glorious view across the beach. The rooms were comfortable and spacious.

Perhaps my only comment is that Brighton hotels are expensive and this hotel is no exception.

“Run down but still charging 5 star prices”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

AWFUL. Recently stayed here for a weekend. Very disappointed. We thought we had treated ourselves to a decent hotel as the prices were very high, not some run down bed and breakfast. Our room was drab, dull and cramped. No main light in the bedroom just two wall lights (one which was hanging off), meant you couldn't even see clearly. Room was too hot and windows only opened a minimal amount. View was of the hotel rooms right opposite meant no privacy. The service in the hotel was terrible. Drink prices were extortionate and service was slow, forgot drinks on several occasions. We had to wait ages at breakfast for hot drinks to be offered and they failed every time to bring spoons with the teapot.

The hotel seemed very short staffed and all prices were extortionate for such poor service. We stayed here a couple of years ago and couldn't fault it. It has certainly gone downhill very quickly in just two years. Overall - terrible.

Some friends of ours stayed in the neighbouring Grand Hotel the same weekend for nearly half the price of what we paid for our grim room and they highly recommended it. So guess where we'll be staying next time we visit.

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel, even if you do manage to get a good room - the rest of the hotel is very disappoin...

Thank you for taking the time to write your comments following your recent stay with us and I am sorry to read of your disappointments about the hotel. We have over the last two years refurbished over 50% of our bedrooms and are presently completing the replacement of all the windows within the non- sea facing bedrooms.

We have also commenced the repainting of all our bedroom corridors and a further number of bedrooms will be refurbished in February 2012. We are also presently awaiting an upgrade to our Air Conditioning units which should resolve the temperature issues you highlighted in your feedback.

I am sorry to read that the service within the hotel did not meet your expectations, as we regularly receive very positive comments from our guests regarding the helpfulness and friendliness of our team I will certainly discuss this with my Heads of Department.

Once again, please accept my apologies for the disappointments you had with the hotel and be assured we are renovating and improving the hotel on a regular basis.

Kind regards

Guy
