When I looked at the reviews a couple of days before I was due to arrive for a week's conference I was starting to wonder what I'd let myself in for. Fortunately using a few tips gleaned from this site and the fact I'm not expecting Hilton quality for £25 a night, I had a perfectly reasonable stay in a 6th floor room that you could see the sea from and as it was warm, I had the windows open throughout.
Yes it was a bit noisy at 3am on one of the nights (I stayed Sunday to Friday so missed the busiest time) and the council emptying the bottle bank at 6am was a shock, I didn't miss much sleep overall. The room was very clean particularly the en-suite and was kept this way each day.
Breakfast was satisfactory. The hot range was a bit limited but there were cereals, juice, yogurt, brown and white bread with various things to spread including honey and nutella and a coffee machine plus some Twinings teas including fruit, Earl Grey etc. (Note the room tea is Tetley). If you are organised, the stay can be really quite pleasant.
I'd probably avoid the weekend though. When I arrived Sunday late morning, there were lots of people checking out and piles of boxes of tins of beer and lager (undrunk) being carted off - must have been some weekend but I needn't have worried. The staff were pleasant enough and I really had no cause for complaint.
For anyone attending an event in the Brighton Centre, the location is un-matched and there are any number of places to eat within 5 minute walk of the front door and just about every cuisine too. Whilst I normally try to go for a hotel with a swimming pool, I would be prepared to stop here again as it is good value as long as you book early on the saver rate. Oh and both lifts worked and they had fixed the toaster too!
