“Wonderful food, lovely staff but could do with a facelift”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We stayed for 2 nights in December for a dance event. Room was comfortable, but a bit dated. Bathroom needs an upgrade. Towels very thin, small and scratchy. All food was very good especially the breakfast. Staff friendly and helpful. Our problem was lack of hot water in the bathroom. We had luke warm showers and baths. The staff apologised and admitted there was a problem with the boiler and hot water tanks. We were compensated at the end od our visit. The hotel is closing in February to address this problem and also to replace the ballroom floor. Entrance looked tired with wilted summer bedding in hanging baskets-not a good first impression.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back as hotel is situated on a busy main road.

“Cozy hotel busy with ballroom dance enthusiasts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

Large room with small seating corner by the window and tea/coffee making facilities. Would like bigger windows. Roomy bathtub. Clean and well serviced daily. A good British breakfast. Ten minute walk uphill from the beach. The hotel caters to ballroom dance enthusiasts, so expect some evening music on some nights, not too loud though and stops before midnight. Friendly staff.

“Wow a unique and wonderful experience!! IT'S A MUST....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

Me and a party of friends stayed at this lovely hotel in Bournemouth and I must say it has exceeded my expectations and very plesantly suprised me. Excellent location 5 minute walk to town, beach and gardens.
Great bar/lounge very unique decor very plesant with great lunch menu, also must recoomend their afternoon cream tea.
AMAZING food can not fault again did not expect that level of quality and taste.
Lovely staff who will attend to your every request and even gone extra mile to make sure we were happy.
They have a beautiful ballroom that we had our evening dance downstairs and it was most enjoyable. Our dancing tuitions were also very informative and fun and couldnt believe it was included in the price along with dinner bed and breakfast. Bargain!
Over all 10/10 defiantly will return!!

“Not what it was.”

Welcome non existent. Reception staff could do with some basic training in how to "meet and greet" & generally deal with guests. Unless in a superior room, bedroom furniture tired and old, showers are run from the bath taps... getting right temp a bit hit or miss.
Restaurant food very good, however, open kitchen can result in guests being able to over hear staff comments about other guests!!
Bar in ballroom not staffed in the evening. To get a drink you have to dial "0" on a phone & wait for someone to come down.
Lessons take place in ballroom to literally just before evening dancing, making it difficult to come down to get a seat without feeling like you are interrupting. Dancing lessons were also taking place in the lounge, lounge furniture was moved about so residents were left with only part of lounge to sit; a quiet drink after dinner difficult.

If not worried about receiving an indifferent service the hotel is ok,but I wouldn't rush to recommend it.

“Great hotel, very enjoyable week.”

Booked a 5-night break through Travelzoo beginning of October with couple of friends and it was great! Hotel is in a perfect location, parked the car and either walked or used buses rest of the time. Short walk to everywhere and although on a busy road, didn't hear any traffic. Decorated in art deco style and loved it. Staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. Being a dancing hotel, it was great as we could go to the ballroom on the lower ground floor and watch, also sat in the lounge one evening and watched an Argentinian Tango lesson. You don't have to dance to stay here, none of us does!
Bar and lounge were very quiet but could be as it was October - we went out for a walk and a drink some evenings.
The food in the restaurant was excellent and plentiful and you have your own table throughout, could not fault any of it.
The room was fairly small but had everything there you needed for a weeks stay, how long do you spend there anyway!
Only slight critisms, the shower was very very slow which you'd notice if used to a power shower, not a worry as everything else was fantastic.
Definitely will go back again.

Room Tip: If not happy you can ask to move.
