We had three rooms at the Woodcroft on a Friday night in early September 2010. The location was fine as we were staying in Bournemouth to catch the ferry very early on the Saturday from Poole. On arriving we asked at reception to collect the key for the third room as the last part of our family party had not yet arrived; this request was refused and the staff seemed generally suspicious of us, asking who we were several times, looking for our bookings for ages and demanding car number plates two or three times.
This wasn't too worrying as it was a cheap enough place to sleep prior to our journey; however the rooms were very dated and naff looking. My mother's room was right over the kitchen and stank of cigarette smoke when we entered and all the water in all three rooms ran hot (yes, that included the cold water taps running hot!) and the showers/bath water was so hot it was close to scalding.
Again, these were all annoying things but could have been ignored pretty much but the reason I would not recommend this hotel nor ever stay there again was the huge level of noise all night long. There was a large wedding taking place during the afternoon with lots of drinking and swearing during the photos outside our window. This was the best part, it later turned out: the disco was so loud that you could clearly hear it even with the TV on and turned up, it was boomingly loud with the TV off with a constant noise of bass like someone thumping your wall repeatedly; the smokers coming out of the disco shouted, sang and argued right under our window all night; it was a hot evening, but we had to close our window due to the disco and smokers making our room too hot; large groups of young men banged around and shouted in the hallways (just outside our paper thin doors) outside of both my husband and I's room and my mother's a floor below - this carried on until 04:00am and we had to be up at 05:30am so we hardly got any sleep meaning the stay at the hotel was pointless.
Thankfully we left to early to be subject to the breakfast, but I would strongly suggest you avoid this hotel at the weekend as if they have a wedding reception you won't be getting any rest. We were not warned when we booked or when we arrived of the wedding party, nor were we all placed together away from the guests and reception, we were both nextdoor to parties of very loud, drunk guests who partied in to the early hours. Shocking stay; avoid.
