When booking this hotel make sure you ask for the refurbished rooms and view them first. I booked into the Durley Dean as I was attending our conference, and at first to be told that the room was not ready and that I had to return later to check in. After attending the first day of conference I was looking forward to getting into my room to freshen up and get ready for dinner. The receptionist was polite (perhaps she knew something I didn't) I was sent to room 332 on the 3rd floor. I knew it wasn't going well the higher up I went, the carpets were worn and it all looked dated. I entered the room and was stunned at what I saw, the room was a box room with a wardrobe with no doors so the room door can open, a single bed against the wall with table at the end of it with a cup and kettle on it. A single window which looked out onto the backs of buildings with their drainage systems on show and seagulls, 2 foot from the bed was the bathroom, well a cupboard with a toilet and a shower, you could use both at the same time if you wished. I don't think any guest should be allocated this room as I feel it's an insult. I was eventually allocated another room which I would have expected in the first place.
