“You Get What You Pay For”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

There are too many people out there who expect to receive 5 star facilities at B&B rates. When it doesn't happen they moan and gripe! The Orchid may not be The Ritz but it does not charge their room rates either. We have stayed in some hotels that are better but we have also stayed in much worse. We stayed at the Orchid for a family party and the hotel staff worked like slaves all night to make that party a success, they were polite, helpful & friendly at all times & the canapes served at the party were excellent. Our room was 112 which is at the front of the hotel. Whilst the decor and furnishings in the room are a bit dated, the things that are matter are all here. The bed is large and whilst it is very firm it is not uncomfortable, the bed linen and bathroom were clean and for the first time ever in a hotel we had a powerful shower with plenty of hot water. The only down side was breakfast which was disappointing thanks to the use of cheap, poor quality ingredients. Would it really break the bank to use good sausages & bacon? Overall we feel we paid a fair price for what we received and if we were in Bournemouth again we would go back as there a plenty of worse hotels charging much higher rates.

Room Tip: Can be noisy overlooking the courtyard

“Give them a Chance !”

Please all you moaners out there stop !
there is a big diference between putting people in the picture, and just plain ole moaning !

I am a big believer in having your say. however please bare in mind this hotel is privately owned, and some people have I think been a bit unfair. And by doing this, It has hurt there livelyhood.

I am having my say, as ...
I, having booked for the Christmas break, read the comments after booking. I very nearly cancelled due to worrying about what we may be met with.

In fact, when I looked around the Hotel, certain arrears deffinatly do need sorting out. and when I opened my " suit " with a huge key, I actually nearly left. but this was mearley down to letting myself run away with the scare mongering I allowed myself to momentarally get hooked in to...

It was then my real sence kicked in !...
Now lets put things into perspective here...

So what, if the hotel isnt tip- top. So what if your room is'nt the plaza.
I put this into the flight catagory, people who want to save loads of money do not fly british airways, or such,,, no... people who think of their pockets choose Easy jet, or ryan air
Theres no point in expecting food, pillows, films, and drinks etc .. what a cheek when you've only paid a fraction of the price to reach your chosen destination !

Now here is where you can expect a nice suprise at the Orchid Hotel...
Remember, you do not as a rule go away on a break to stay on your bed in the room all day and night do you ?
This Hotel family, will go out of their way to do anything for you. they work hard, and the staff are down to earth, pleasant, and very happy to attend to anything you may want.
The bar, resteraunt, and seating arrears are pleasent, comfy, and open.

The food was homely, and plentyful. These people try really hard. And speaking from experience, I had a lovely time there. I also heard other people expresing very nice comments. Granted, these coments are on the family who run this Hotel
I would agree with this wholeheartedly. This family deserve a lucky break, this Hotel is well worth the tarrif it charges !
It is worth every penny. It is not trying to be anything other than what it is.
A hard working, value for money, very plesant Hotel !

May I wish all the family here a very happy new year, And personally thank them for all the hard work they put in to give all their guests a really honest nice time .

“Disappointing overnight stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

The communal areas and our allocated bedroom appeared nice on the surface…. However, our room was incredibly hot (even though it was about 2 degrees outside), the mattress clearly had no springs and we may as well have slept on the bed’s divan base, we could hear everything going on in adjoining rooms and in the corridor, plus we were woken at about 7:30am on a Sunday morning by loud music coming from somewhere in the hotel.
Breakfast was ok, but ruined by off-putting dinner leftovers stuck on the place mats and lots of stains on the seats. We figured out that the loud music was coming from ceiling-mounted speakers in the Breakfast room, which was directly below our room.
On checking out I complained to the Receptionist about being woken by the loud music and her response was “we’ve not had any other complaints – why didn’t you ask us to turn it down?”……she seemed generally unconcerned. Certainly wouldn’t want to stay there again.

“Good for what we needed...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

Pretty good spot and great value for us - no wedding party so all was quiet and calm. Staff were helpful, room was clean and breakfast decent served by helpful and friendly staff. 5 minute walk from the front and plenty of space to park (and leave) the car. We didn't actually spend much time there as we were at an event but the bar seemed nice and the Asian theme throughtout is a bit different. Liked it. No complaints although it could do with a little maintenance in some places and our room was quit small but perfectly adequate.

“Lovely little hotel, just needs a little tweaking”

Stayed for one night with friends and booked family room. Was nice that it was 3 full sized beds (which were very comfortable!) and not a double and camp bed. Room was decent size but could benefit from more power points and mirrors (had some of both but the two did not seem to be together, not good for three women trying to get ready!) The public areas are nicely decorated but have to agree with previous reviews, all soft furnishings need some tlc (rather grubby!). Breakfast was exactly what it was descrbed as but would have benefited from some yoghurt (to go with the fruit). On plus side staff were very helpful, parking was no problem (although no function going on), location good. For value for money you could not fault it, would stay again if going to Bournemouth for a night or two.
