“What a nice little hotel”

We stayed at the Ullswater for their twixmas break last week and really enjoyed our stay. Could do with a bit of updating as it seems to be in a seventies time warp and I think because of this it appeals to the older clientele. To keep it simple, great room, great location, lovely food and lovely friendly staff, We'd definitely stay her again although probably not at this time of year as most of the guests were a little older and we did have to pop into the town to get a bit of something livelier !!

“Food was first class but rooms and bedding need updating”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

We spent four nights over Christmas as part of a coach party. We had full board and many extras including nightly entertainment, a visit to the local pantomime and a mystery drive around the Purbeck Hills. There was some spare time to visit the nearby beach and Bournemouth shops. The food was fantastic! Full breakfast every day and lunch and dinner comprised anything up to four or even five courses. A great selection of piping hot food, well cooked by a caring and brilliant chef. The service was great too with food arriving within a few minutes of ordering even though the hotel was full. I have not had such good food in a British seaside hotel before!
The lounge and bar were well furnished and very popular with the guests. There was also a full size snooker table and a table tennis table in the basement. Our bedroom was satisfactory for this sort of visit although the bathroom was tight for space and with very 1970s fittings. The beds were good but we would have preferred duvets to the sheets and blankets provided which were restrictive and somewhat uncomfortable. The heating was good although not really need as the weather was unseasonably warm and we were glad that we could open a window. The carpet was clean but looked due for replacement. The analogue TV is due for replacement soon. The hotel is in a side road and although we were on the front, there was little or no noise from the outside. Inside the walls did allow some intrusion of noise from the room on one side but this did not spoil our sleep. Overall it was a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: We were on the 3rd floor which has modern UPVC windows which were easy to open and adjust.

“LEVEL OF SERVICE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

If you want a hotel that offers- poor communication regarding overbooking (without any apology) and general unhelpfulness, then this is the hotel for you. We travelled many miles only to be told that we were to be moved to another hotel as the Ullswater was closed on the following Monday! Parking was diabolical with a coach parked right across car parking bays ensuring customers had a real problem with proper, safe parking. Staff very unhelpful regarding this situation. Give this hotel a miss!

Many thanks for your kind words.
Its good to hear you all had such a good time, which makes our work more enjoyable.
The three items you mention: staff friendliness, good food and cleanliness are , in fact , the things we strive to achieve as we believe these are the most important.
We look forward to welcoming you back!

Many thanks for your praise of our food, cleanliness and staff friendliness-things people often mention.
All televisions are being replaced during our January closure for ongoing refurbs and general decorating which -we are often told -is much better than most places
