We stayed one night (11 February 2012) in room 27. Twin room. Reasonably spacious - built-in wardrobe, desk, table, 2 chairs very clean. Good sized bathroom - no bath but large walk-in shower which was perfectly adequate - reasonable pressure and temperature. Toiletries disappointing - one tiny tablet of soap and two very small shampoo/shower gel bottles (but maybe this was because we were only staying one night). The room was nice and warm.
Reception staff very friendly and welcoming.
We didn't use the restaurant in the evening.
Breakfast was good although we had to send the toast back as they had really only served us with warm bread - the table next to us had the same problem. Breakfast restaurant staff were pleasant.
But when checking out (we had prepaid for the room to minimise the cost) we were asked to pay £1.55 for the Sunday paper we had ordered which costs £1.50. They explained the extra 5p was to cover the cost of having the paper delivered to the hotel.
I have never in all my 45 years of staying in hotels ever experienced this before. I don't dispute the legality of it but really! You would think that the cost of the room would include this 5p. I wouldn't pay the 5p because we had not been informed of this charge when we ordered the paper (we had to fill in a form when we checked in so the charge should have appeared there).
I wouldn't stay there again on principle.
