We visited this hotel on a Monday-Friday dance break. We asked for a large room as we had to bring work with us to do, and were given an excellent very large room - with no sea view! I went to reception and asked if it might be possible to change, and we were given a beautiful room overlooking the sea, with plenty of room to work. The staff throughout the hotel couldn't have been more friendly and keen to make sure everyone had a good time. In common with most ageing hotels, floorboards were creaky in places (all part of the charm!). Our half board meals were well cooked - breakfasts were plentiful with a good choice, and evening meals started with soup or salad (with additional items like quiche/prawns/ham etc) which could also be taken as a main course. Mains were nicely cooked (veg a bit 'over' for my personal taste, but the group we were with were mainly retired people and I'm sure most of them were very happy with this). There were always two choices plus a vege option and everything was extremely nice. Chef was happy to serve 'some of each' for those who were undecided, and veg was serve-yourself. Desserts were buffet-style and much enjoyed, and there was always cheese and biscuits too. The hotel was pretty clean and tidy everywhere, but like most independently run hotels, maintenance is a 'work in progress' and I imagine a bit like painting the Forth Bridge. A faulty shower was fixed within hours in our room, so nothing to complain about there. Would we go back? Most definitely. Lovely to be made to feel welcome by staff who actually care about the guests.
