“Beware”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

This hotel is an absolute shambles me and my girlfriend tried to have a romantic valintines weekend away, but it was ruined by this hotel and it's staff. While checking in we were not given any proper details on dinner or breakfast times or checking out times. We wernt even told are room number. Once arriving in are room we found a number of faults, the t.v didn't work, the kettle was faulty and cause my girlfriend quite a severe burn to her hand. Not to mention the bed, the mattress was so full of lumps and mounds that you could lay in no position without feeling like you were falling into the middle or off the side completely, needless to say my girlfriend and I had no sleep that night. No wait my friends it gets worse......... In the morning I phoned reception to find out breakfast times, I was told it finished at 9.30, and they wanted £10 each for the privilege!! After the less than adequate experience we both had I decided to take up my complaints with a member or staff on reception, she was far from helpful and asked me to return at 12 to speak to the manager, an hour after the check out time...... My girlfriend returned to the hotel at 3pm expecting to be able to have our issues resolved by the manager, only to be told that in fact there was no manager at the hotel as it was the weekend (which you would expect is there busiest time of the week and the most important time for a manager to be present), not only was there no manager but no member of staff available to deal with the complaint, she was told that if we wanted to speak to the manager she would have to call in the week, at least 3 days after we had left the hotel. I would advise anyone who is planning on staying in Bournemouth beware russel court hotel is a no go.

“Would not stay here again!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

AWe have just stayed here for two nights and have left feeling that we have been conned!! On booking a double room we were told we wouldnt be guaranteed a double bed unless we paid an extra £10 or we would be given two single beds however when we arrived they did have a double but we would still have to pay £10, parking was another £10, the room itself was not worth the the discounted price let alone the original price of £130 with a broken bath panel, stains on bed linen and hairs from other people, the shower stays at a good temperature for all of 2 mins then goes freezing cold or boiling hot, didn't want to shower my daughter because of this, we also had to re-tune the tv and were still left with fussy picture! when we came to leave I had to wait upstairs whilst my husband took down our luggage after 3 trips in tiny lift to then be told that because we took 15 mins longer we had to pay another £10 , (the charge of us having the room another hour!) when I asked to see the manager who I could hear around the corner, he would not come out, when I asked for his name by another member of staff they would not tell me!! Never Again!!

“First Class Service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Hotel is still undergoing redecoration but mostly finished now. You pay £5 per night car parking at the hotel, which compares favourably with local car parks at £12 per night. On arrival, we were offered an upgrade to a deluxe room for a further £20, which we accepted. It wasn't really worth it, as the extra was a small room attached to the main bedroom, with a single bed in it, and a small flat screen t.v. The rooms were very cold when we arrived, and we had a small oil filled radiator in the main bedroom, together with an air conditioning unit , ( very noisy ) , which blew warm air out. No heating in the small bedroom, and a tiny electric towel rail in the bathroom, which was useless to warm the room. As you leave the room, you take your key out which turns all the electrics off, so there is no way of keeping heat in the rooms. We could warm the bedroom quickly enough, but it was quite unpleasant using the freezing bathroom. Not acceptable in this day and age. Of course, this would not be a problem in the summer.
Staff were lovely and friendly and the service was very good. We ate in the hotel on the Saturday night, and the dinner was first class. Drinks were reasonably priced, and the check out time of eleven o'clock is nice, as a lot of hotels have a ten o'clock check out. The extra hour makes for a relaxing morning. The hotel is conveniently sited very near the town centre, but far enough away not to suffer from the noise of a very lively night scene. Good value, good service and a reasonable price. Sort the heating out, and you have an excellent value package.
