“Lovely afternoon tea & great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

My partner and I recently purchased the afternoon tea GroupOn offer. We really enjoyed our afternoon, the sandwiches and cakes were lovely and fresh and the service was second to none. Sometimes with GroupOn offers you often get overlooked in favour of cash paying customers but here we were treated just like everyone else. The serving staff were attentive and on arrival we were given a glass of sparkling wine each. Shortly afterwards our cakes and sandwiches were bought out and they were delicious. There was as much tea or coffee as we liked. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be booking another one for a special occasion soon.

“A really lovely day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

A friend and I took up an offer for a spa day at the hotel which included lunch with wine and use of pool, steam room etc.

What a lovely hotel, traditional with lovely period features, staff were attentive and friendly and the atmosphere all around was just lovely and welcoming. The log fires were lit which was great as it was really cold and grey outside, lovely comfortable sofas and chairs, lamps and candles just added to the overall comfort of the lounge area. Lunch was lovely as well!

Will use this hotel again soon for an overnight stay. 5 Minutes taxi ride from Train station and down the hill to the shops

“Didn't start so well...but got better!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Booked a couple of nights away to take a look at Bournemouth and it surroundings. Chose the N-R as there was a deal on with Tescos...so a cheap weekend away! Hotel is well placed for the town centre, the gardens and the lovely beach. The car parking is a challenge if you have a large car. The underground car park is quite hard to manoeuvre around and the spaces are tight...we ended up with a 'ding' in the door where someone had smacked their door into ours. Check in was ok although the first room that we were given (basement rooms 1-9) was a nice room but smelled really off ( cross between old smoke and damp). We were moved to 108 which was a brighter room however it was right above the huge metal doors for the car park i.e. every time a car entered/left the car park the gates clanked open and clanked shut! The room was clean but the valance was really dirty and scuffed where the hoover had been rammed against it endlessly...little things like this let the place down. The hotel badges itself as 'period elegance' I would add 'faded' to that description as it needs a good re-vamp of the public areas (the first floor corridor was scuffed and the floor boards are really creaky and noisy). Breakfast was good and plenty of it and we didn't use the reataurant at night but it looked like a popular haunt. We had an electrical fault in the room that was sorted out whilst we were at breakfast which was good. The staff are polite and seemed efficient...its a decent hotel that tries hard to please.

Room Tip: avoid the basement rooms as the one that we were given smelled...also note that the metal gates to t...

Great Hotel we went on a special deal and it was a 2 night stay.
Hotel very traditional with huge chandelier in lounge comfy settee's and open fire so relaxing.
We were given a ground floor room which was delightful light and airy with floor length windows door to garden and Patio with table & chairs for two.
Bedroom ensuite well appointed-
Tea making mini bar/iron/ironing board. Moulton & Brown Toiletries much of as you want but not to take home they are chargable if you do.
Echoes Restaurant excellent dining by candlelight good choice of menu and cheese board best yet - no scrimping here loaded home made chutneys/celery/grapes plenty of cheese & biscuits.
Grand summary helpful staff great location we went to Poole for day by bus and we were able to use our senior cards we didnt use car at all we walked into town and pier and buses were going to all detinations Wareham / Wimborne so its a great out of season break.
We have booked again for March and again in June.
