“Stay away”

Bought this weekend away for my husband as a surprise Christmas present at the Suncliffe Hotel. But however on arrival on the 6th January we were informed we had been allocated to the sister hotel Cliffside. Unfortunately I was not aware on booking that we could possibly be moved hotels and felt the Cliffside to be a lower grade hotel.  On checking in we found the staff very unhelpful and quite miserable, however wanted to make the most of the weekend and continued to check in.  On viewing the room we felt it was adequate although extremely hot and on viewing the menu (as I bought a package to include evening meal) I felt this also a lower grade to the menu offered at the Suncliffe.  We therefore asked if we could dine at the Suncliff, to be told "nothing we can do". The receptionist rang my room that afternoon and told us that we were unable to use the pool as there was problems with the chemicals and the pool was out of order.  However, we were told be another guest that evening that the pool was actually in use and he had been swimming that afternoon.  When questioning the staff they apologised for the lie.  On trying to have a drink that evening we were told that there was a private party in our hotel and we therefore went next door to the Suncliffe, after purchasing our drinks another guest approached us and told us that we weren't able to drink there as there was also a private party and at which point we were forced to leave the hotel and find other entertainment. On complaining to the manager at both the Suncliffe and Cliffside we were yet again told "nothing we can do!".  On returning home we complained about the service provided as we were very disappointed with the weekend, only to be emailed by the hotel representative who was extremely rude and instead of answering the complaint, was more interested in where I was complaining from. The company has still not answered my complaint to date and continue to evade these issues.  I would therefore not advise anyone to stay at this group of hotels as they have no customer service training and are unable to deal with any complaints or queries.  The staff and managers are rude, non-responsive and trained to answer "nothing I can do!"  I would like to add we came across two friendly members of staff, the dining manageress and the blonde receptionist, however this does not compensate for the terrible service and attitude from the Directors of this group that I have received. Do not go here!

We are sorry about the mix up with the booking, I would like to inform you that both The Cliffeside and The Suncliff are of a Three Star Standard. Our staff are neither miserable or unhelpful they all do a great job. On arrival at The Cliffeside you were infact upgraded to a Sea View room at no extra cost ( having booked a standard room at Suncliff) as i said all our rooms are of Three Star Standard.
The package you booked was for Buffet Dinner, Bed & breakfast all of which offers ample choice and a high standard and changes on a daily basis. the menu that you saw at the suncliff was infact a Private party menu which had taken over the entire hotel, paying over £100.00 per room per night rather more than you were paying.
I am very sorry I do not beleive that any member of my staff would say there was 'nothing I can do '. when you asked about dining at the Suncliff With regard to the pool at the Suncliff, the reception was quite right to phone your room saying about a chemical problem ( this does happen from time to time ) when the pool did come back into action all guests were phoned in the rooms at the time this was not a lie just the facts The reception did NOTapologised for the lie ( your words). Just sorry you were not informed the pool was back on .
In the evening you said you were told you couldn't have a drink in the bar this is not the case at all, I have spoken to all staff working that night what you were told was the Ocean Suite had a private party in which is next to our Waves bar, we never ever close our Wave Bar for private function this is open every day of every week of the year .The Suncliff did however have a private function in it as mentioned previously ,You were not forced to leave the Suncliff and am sure that you were asked politley to leave. You said you spoke to both Suncliff and Cliffeside Managers you said, they said ' There is nothing they can do ' Rubbish our managers would not say this you, may use this wording in your line of business but we do not. Our customer service and training is second to none our staff are not trained to say 'there is nothing i can do', they are trained to go the extra mile and that is why our company is so successful.
With regard to your complaint to The Directors you were e-mailed from 1 of them, who just asked a few questions to where you were e-mailing from ( don't think we will go into that do you !) On the morning you 1st e-mailed you bombarded him with e-mail relating to protocol and work ethics?
In your last e-email to him you then requested not to be mailed at work. but to do so in writing, which he did on the 19th January 2012.
SO THE DIRECTOR DID REPLY TO YOUR COMPLAINT , YOU HAVE CHOSEN TO IGNORE THE LETTER AND WRITE A REVIEW ON THIS SITE.

“Unhelpful and rude staff!”

I stayed here this weekend with five of my friends and having only paid £35 a room didn't expect too much however on arrival the girl on the reception seemed rude and grumpy!

The rooms were a good size and were cleaned in the day which was appreciated!

The use of the pool next door was nice and the staff there seemed a lot more friendly. However on coming back from the pool one of our group mislaid the room key. On speaking to the woman at reception she simply said " well
It's gone" whilst watching people search there handbags and bags she often no information on how we go about replacing the key!

Other than the staff the hotel itself was in a good location not far from the town centre and the rooms were clean and tidy on arrival.

From the staffs reaction on arrival it is clearly not a place where they want "young groups" to stay. Having booked this for my friends birthday I was certainly embarrassed by the choice of hotel and believe it or not will not be returning

As I recall on arrival there should have been 6 people and only 5 came, the receptioist on duty was neither rude nor grumpy as I myself was on duty at this time. We pride ourself on our freindly and helpful service at the Cliffside, You only have to checkout the other reviews, perhaps it was the whole attitude of your group on arrival that caused problems !!!!!
We do have many single sex groups stay with us and all tend to leave more than satisfied with good friendly staff and great food.
We had to cope with the unbeleivable mess you and your freinds left after after a birthday party weekend, pizza ,cake etc,etc and dressing up clother strew everywhere and the bath that looked like it was out of a horror movie, all of which our staff have to deal with without question.
So on this occasion we are glad you are not returning.

“Shaky start but friendly helpful staff and great location.”

I booked the sister hotel Suncliffe because of the reviews and rooms looked nice but arrived quite late Friday 6 Jan and was told there was a maintenance issue and had to stay next door in Cliffeside. Its only a few steps away so this wasnt an issue. We were given room 244 which was really hot and the view was of the side of next doors hotel, it felt a bit claustrophobic as the window wasnt very big and neither was the room, it was clean though! My partner went to reception to ask if we could change but were told we could only be moved in the morning. A nice lady came to our room and we explained how we felt and she was very helpful and said although there was nothing she could do at the moment we would be moved in the morning and could have a fan overnight. She also waived the £20 charge for our dog to stay. She then rang up to our room and said she was sending the porter up with a fan and would like to offer us a complimentary drink, a lovely gesture.
The shower took a while to get to the right temperature and after a couple of minutes went really cold then went boiling hot but seemed to sort itself out. By 12 oclock the receptionist said our room was ready. Room 242 is a nice room with a great sea views and huge windows. The only problem was the noise at night from the creaking floorboards and doors slamming when people came in late so we didnt have the best nights sleep.
I would say for the price (£75 for 2 nights) it was well worth it. We had dinner in The Cumberland hotel which is another sister hotel and it was very modern so its probably worth paying the extra.

Room Tip: Definately go for a sea view room, 242 and the room below it have the biggest windows with a 180 deg...

Thankyou for your honesty regarding your stay with us, we are in the process of a re-decoration program and as you will appreciate this all takes time. You were re-allocated to us from our sister hotel, so glad that overall you had good stay and we were able to move rooms for you , Room 242 has a great view and is one that gets requested on many occasion.
We hope that you will return to Bournemouth and use our hotel and all the facilities it has to offer in the near future.
