“The usual standard you get from Britannia”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I stayed at this hotel for two nights last weekend with a friend. We got a cheap break which included dinner, breakfast and an hours free bar. I have stayed at other Britannia hotels in the past and the standard was much as I expected, the room was clean, but very tatty, the dressing table so warped that things rolled off the edge! We ate in the restaurant the first night, which was OK, although neither of us could identify the starters and so gave them a miss. The free bar drinks were cheap unbranded versions and at a guess, watered down and after the hours free bar drinks were very expensive. The second night we gave dinner and free bar a miss and ate at ASK across the road from the hotel. We had room service breakfast both days which was lovely and very generous. Overall I would rate this hotel as OK, if you want a cheap break in the centre of Bournemouth and are not looking for luxury. As with most Britannia hotels, it has the potential to be a really lovely hotel if only they would invest some money in upgrading the furniture and decor.

“weekend break”

just spent a great weekend at the roundhouse. During the coldest weekend this year the bedroom was really warm - heating on all night. Food was excellent, really good choice and as much to eat as you wanted. Bed was very comfy and room clean. Bar area was a bit cold but it would have been really hard to heat given the temperature outside. Staff were all very friendly. I will definitely be back.

“Good value from old hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I took advantage of a "sale" week, so had a one night stay - Dinner, Bed & Breakfast plus a bottle of wine, all for £27. The food was fine, with a good choice - not high quality, but still enjoyable and as it was self service the quanties were faultless. The wine was actually rather good. Free parking was a real bonus. The room was dated but clean, the staff very helpful and the hotel warm. I can see that it is something of a coach party hotel, but hey given the price the value is remarkable. My room looked into the cental roof area, so dull. A good budget hotel.

“winter break”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

this hotel is a little tired and needs upgrading but that did not spoil our 5 day break with national holidays.our room was very clean, the bathroom was very warm due to a heated towel rail but there were problems with the central heating throughout the hotel.we were given an electric heater which did the job when switched on.the public areas ie the reception and restaurant were very cold throughout our stay.these problems were put aside though as the food at breakfast and evening meal was superb.all meals were buffet style and there was something for everyone with lots of choice always available.would certainly return.

Room Tip: even numbers faced several roads so were a little noisy.

“You get what you pay for, so don't expect more”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

I stayed here on a last minute break for 2 people, for 2 nights including breakfast which came to £70 for both of us. Having read the Tripadvisor reviews, and viewed travellers photos of the hotel, I pretty knew what we were getting before we arrived. Check in was easy, we dumped the car in the multi story car park then checked in. After dumping the luggage in the dated, tired room, we escaped down to the beach for the rest of the afternoon. When we came back to get ready to go out for the evening, that was exactly what we did. The room wasn't something I'd want to relax in, watching TV as it's clear that a thorough clean isn't done each time a visitor checks out. It's ok for a base if you don't intend on spending much time at the hotel apart from sleeping. We tried the wine at the hotel bar before we went out, and I'd say it's best to be avoided! The clientele here are mainly older, and the entertainment that they provide is matched to this. The breakfast is ok for a shabby hotel buffet, with enough for everyone, even vegetarians. The staff are all Eastern European and very polite. In all, I'd say that this is a good value hotel, but expect it to be dated, not the cleanest, and maybe somewhere you would only want to use as a base.
