We were very tired after our six hour journey to Torquay.We were welcomed by Debbie and Garry who provided us with tea and hot chocolate for our daughter. We stayed in a very pleasant family room with a good range of things provided . Fluffy white towels, bottled water, delicious biscuits and a choice of tea and coffee. The breakfast was wonderful . Everything on the plate was locally sourced produce which Debbie and Garry had gone to great lengths to research. The best thing about The Shirley is Debbie and Garry . They are a very nice couple who go out of their way to make it feel homely and relaxed. They enjoy their guests company and made our six year old daughter feel very welcome. Thanks for a lovely couple of days, we hope to return in the future .

We were lucky enough to receive a gift voucher for a coastal break that The Shirley Hotel was only to happy to oblige, even though it was a bank holiday we chose to go away, other hotels were disconcerning, but Debbie and Garry were only too happy for us to stay, greeting us immediately, with a welcomed cuppa after our drive from north wales, Garry also helping us with directions on the phone!!! everything was just perfect from there on, a lovely room, meaningful extras like milk for tea and coffee in a fridge on the landing!!!!! and even a swim in the pool arranged by Garry, Breakfast.... OMG... WOW We had a wonderful choice, we had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, which we chose the evening before from extras menu, we felt so special and spoilt during our stay, even sent a thank you card!!! Would recommend to absolutely anyone, and Joe and I look forward very much to visiting again.....Mx

We needed a break away from the pressures of life and boy did we receive it. We were met with a wonderful friendly welcome and first class service. We loved the breakfast which was so large we didn't need lunch. The bed was really comfortable and everywhere was absolutely spotless. There were many extra touches like fresh milk for drinks in your room, good advice on local hotspots and places to eat, to mention just a few.
We would thoroughly recommend this Hotel and want to take this opportunity to thank Debbie & Gary yet again for making our short three day break feel as if we had had a real holiday.

My wife and I spent Christmas 2011 at the Shirley Hotel and found the experience truly memorable. From the arrival, we were greeted with a warm welcome, a cup of tea and an overview Torquay (e.g. reliable restaurants, tourist hotspots etc.). The English breakfast is fantastic, and a great way to start the day. It is evident much care and attention is taken with the en-suite facilities - for which you willl not be disappointed. Gary and Debbie organised a buffet on New Years eve, which proved a fantastic way to introduce 2012. Gary and Debbie are perfectly suited for running a hotel, as they clearly work well together in providing a 1st class service, and each add an individual 'essence' to the stay. My wife and I will make the Shirley Hotel the home from home when visiting family in the Torquay area in the future.
