“Coach holiday stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

My friend and I shared an 'extra mobility' room on the ground floor for 3 nights in October 2011. The room was nicely furnished and comfortable, though became rather warm at times. even though the Central heating was not on! The windows faced the road, and traffic could be heard at times. The food choices were good, and well cooked and presented. My gluten-free diet was provided without fuss, even though I had not informed the hotel before I arrived. The evening entertainment was varied, and catered for most tastes. The staff were very helpful and cheerful throughout, and I would love to stay there again.
Our mobility is poor, and we were pleased to find that the 1/2 hourly 'land train' to the shops, harbour, etc, stopped about 100yards from the hotel, which made sightseeing much easier!

“Recent Stay at Bute Court”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

Have stayed at Bute Court on many occasions and found the hotel well run and excellent value for money. Unfortunately my recent stay there was very poor with the service provided and the room allocated was of a very poor standard. Cup strains on top of table provided for teas and coffee. The bath / toilet were in a very small area where it was difficult to seat on toilet seat due to lack of leg room (Not suitable for anybody over 5ft 8" ) Water from bath very slow.
The hotel has been up for sale for 8 months and because of this payment can only be made by cash and not by credit card. A colleague tried to pay his bill the previous evening from departure and was told no body other than the manager could deal with him. He would only be available the following morning.
Despite Torquay going digital a few years ago the hotel only offer the basic BB1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4 & Channel 5.
The new owners will have to spend a lot of money on updating the hotel and returning it to a high standard hotel again.
I certainly wont be staying there again under the existing management.

Room Tip: Check room with hotel staff before accepting it.

“Great stay would recommend”

I stayed in this hotel last week for 3 nights. Arrived on Thursday afternoon and received the keys to my room which was located on the ground floor. My room was really big and well furnished with a large double wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables and easy chair. There was also an additional heater on top of the radiator in the room which was useful when the evenings got chilly. There was a reasonably sized shower room ensuite which was ideal for my needs with consistent supplies of hot water on demand. I had booked B&B but needed evening meal on the night of my arrival and it was no problem for them to accommodate me. Dinner consisted of a nice 3 course meal with choices of starter, main course and desert with a choice of tea or coffee to follow. I had pasta to start with, Roast beef for main and cheeseboard for desert and it was good wholesome food with plenty of potatoes and veg. All served by friendly waiting staff who were only too happy to help. Breakfasts were great with choices suitable for all tastes, with lots of toast and coffee included.
I was also able to purchase afternoon snacks (Ham sandwich served with Salad and crisps) all reasonably priced.
Kate, the woman who worked in the evenings and served drinks from the bar as well as manning the reception was a brilliant friendly person and I spent my last evening there sitting in the bar chatting to her. She was great and she is an asset to that hotel.
The decor of the hotel is in keeping with the gorgeous Victorian style with a lovely comfy seating area just past the reception where I was able have my lunchtime snack.
Overall I was very impressed with the Bute Court and would highly recommend it to anyone. For £29 per night B&B, how could you go wrong. Thank you to all the staff and especially Kate who made me feel very welcome. :)

Room Tip: There was a patio door in my ground floor room (R102) that I could open and step outside to have a q...

“Good stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

This was the second time i / we have stayed at the Bute court Hotel,as with most hotels you can always find something to moan about, but with the Bute you get good old fashioned service with a smile,Manuel as he his known by our group is a great laugh, the food is excellent ,and nothing is to much trouble,in fact all the staff are very good. The rooms might be a bit basic, but they are fine, and they are clean.Although the hotel is rated as 2* the service is 5* and we will be going back again next year. Thanks to everyone at the hotel, looking forward to next time.

“Funny little "Faulty Tower".....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

Looks very impressive inside, but once you have a better look you see what is behind. The bed is probably the worst I have ever slept in... way too soft with way too many springs and squaking every time someone moves on it...
Shower has no curtains, which is not a big issue, but when the shower cable does not reach your shoulders (and I am only 168cm) that is a bit of an issue...
Anyway the room looked quite clean.
Not sure if it is worth what we paid for, but was a nice experience.
