We arrived in the afternoon of Fri 27 Jan 2012 and stayed for a 3 nights Dinner Bed & Breakfast break, we were one of the first guests to book in following the hotels reopening after it had been closed all of January during which a continuation of refurbishment work was being carried out in the main part of the hotel, when we arrived the carpet fitters were just finishing off the laying of a new carpet in the main bar area, it could also be seen that all the main areas of hotel including the stairways had recently been re-carpeted to a very high standard.
Our room was in the main hotel building and overlooked the main entrance and the gardens, when we first entered it the sun was shining straight through the main window and the room was very warm even though it was very cold outside, we soon found that after the sun went off the window the room soon cooled down that's when we realised that one of the 2 radiators was not working, we contacted the reception and the maintenance man arrived straight away and told us that the system had been drained down and this particular radiator now needed bleeding which he did, after which it worked fine, there was also an electric radiator fitted on the wall that we were also able to use if we needed it.
Our room had a very comfortable bed, and was nicely decorated with a 2 seater sofa and ample cupboard and wardrobe space, along with a separate toilet/bath/shower room.
The hotel is in 2 parts the main building and another section that is referred to has the wing this is accessed by just a short walk along a carpeted corridor past the indoor pool,
We went for our evening meal at 6.30pm and was welcomed by Chris who showed us to our table we had a delicious 3 course meal from a varied menu, this was followed by coffee and mints in the lounge.
Arriving for Breakfast we were offered a choice of tea or coffee along with brown or white toast that was brought to our table ,we then went up to help ourselves from a large choice of food that would suit all tastes, with 4 or 5 cereals to choose from, plus porridge, including yogurt and fruit juice, and an assortment of fruit deserts, there was also a freshly cooked full English breakfast available to help ones self to,we could not fault the food or the staff who were most courteous, friendly and polite.
all in all we found the service second to non and very good value for money we would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Torquay, The hotel is only a short walk downhill to the harbour and main shopping area, in the opposite direction we discovered Meadfoot Beach which has free parking on the side of the road at this time of year if you did not want to walk there.
