“Ideal Location too stay when in Torquay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We live in Bristol and use Torquay as a destination to have a relaxing short break. We used the Westbrook for the first time last year and have already stayed there 3 times since August 2011. We have always found Maureen and Mike to be very hospitable and there establishment is always very clean and tidy. They will do all they can to make your stay enjoyable and provide the little things to assist, like games, toys, puzzles & dvds in the family room to entertain your children and umberelas are left in the hallway for guest use if it is raining. If you are venturing to the beach they can provide you with buckets and spades. For couples the room sizes are adequate for your needs, and each room has a fridge for your convenience. For those looking for a romantic time away one room does have a Four Poster bed (I believe there may be a higher rate for this room). The hotel is off the main road and therefore it is quiet at night and you should not be disturbed when sleeping.
The hotel has free parking for 5 vehicles and there is limited free road parking. The hotel is idealy located for the Riviera Centre 5 mins walk and 10 mins to the Pavillion Theatre. The beach and gardens are only a 5 -10 min walk. The stroll into the shopping area if you go by the seafront and harbour is about 20mins but if you go the backstreets it is only 10 mins.
The TLH resort (Derwent Hotel) on the main road opposite has a lovely indoor swimming pool which non residents can use, they offer a DipnDine ticket £10 Adult £6 child (at time of print) where £4 and £2 goes towards the swimming and the remainder goes towards eating in there Bistro, highly recommended. Also in the summer months they have an outdoor pool which you may be able to use.
With places to visit Paignton Brixham Cockington Babicombe and Goodrington Sands only a short drive away and the bigger cities of Exeter and Plymouth within easy reach this is an ideal location to book for either a short or long stay.
So when coming to Torquay book your stay with Maureen & Mike at the Westbrook and you too will be booking repeat visits.
Oh yes the breakfasts are great and will set you up for a great day.

Room Tip: For Romantics ask for the Four poster bed Room

“Nice time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

My booking was for 5/6 rooms. We all enjoyed our stay. Didn't stay in the room much, only to shower before going out to watch Oxford play Torquay on day 1 and then celebrate NYE.

Its in a nice location, perhaps a little too far from the main street with the shops and pubs/restaurants but a £5 taxi away. A pub called the Bull and Bush is nearby, wouldn't recommend the food, deffo walk to the main shopping area.

Breakfast at the Hotel was lovely. The rooms were clean and pleasant.

“Family Mini Break”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

I have to say we were very disappointed with our stay at the Westbrook. Not fair to class as a "Hotel" this is a small Bed & Breakfast.
As soon as you walk in you can tell the host Maureen has been busy..... Busy with her laminating machine!!!! there are laminated signs EVERYWHERE!!!! even one telling us not to flush the toilet after 9pm at night!!!!,Food not great and very over priced with an evening meal menu dating back to the 70's!! We found the family room to be clean but very dated Decor and not very much room for a family of 4.
Please dont be decieved by the photos like we were, One of the main reasons we booked the Westbrook as it advertised having a bar with a baby listening service, ideal we thought for when the children were in bed early evening, this is not the case!!! although they do hold a licence the host offered to serve us drinks in our bedroom? not quite the same? there is no sign of a bar or any area to relax in apart from a tiny room they class as a dining area which barely fits the table & chairs for breakfast, and a tiny area of astroturf no bigger than my bathroom mat which they call a garden!!! However directly opposite is a huge family focussed hotel with live entertainment on that works out cheaper than this tiny B&B.

Room Tip: There is not one

Thank you for your time in leaving us a review, but I would have appreciated it more if you had made sure your facts were correct. We are NOT advertised as a 'hotel' but as a guest house. It would only come up under hotel if other reviews had mentioned the word hotel, which is beyond my control. The toilet sign is actually '11pm' and is NOT for my benefit but for the comfort of other guests, and I don't think you will find any other signs as I detest them.
All dinners are homecooked using local produce and we tend to go for more traditional dishes rather than 'corden blue' but as you didn't sample any I don't see how you can comment.
As you rightly say, we advertise that we are licensed, but NOT that we have a bar area or guest lounge. There are mini bars in the rooms, and we are always happy to listen for children with the monitor if we are at home. We do NOT advertise that we have a garden, merely a patio area which does seat 6 or 7.
Obviously you should have booked a HOTEL and not a guest house as our building is no more than a large family house, which you can clearly see from the photo, as are all the other guest houses on our side of Scarborough Road. You booked through an Eviivo distributor so I know for a fact that it clearly states we are a guest house. How do you expect a 6-bedroom guest house to have room for entertainment, lounge area and bar? I notice that you did not mention that we do try and keep the children entertained by supplying toys, games, books and a DVD player.

“Good food, comfy bed, great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011 via mobile

We came to Devon to relax after a month of touring around the UK. Our stay at the Westbrook was perfect, it is centrally located, so walking to the seaside is easy. Our ensuite room was very clean, the tea tray, towel warmer, and book exchange were welcome perks. Our host Maureen arranged for our laundry to be picked up and delivered by her laundry service....very appreciated. We would certainly stay here again.

“GREASE THEATRE BREAK”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2011

Our break was made by Maureen's to die for Desserts, our 3 day Theatre break included a 2 course evening meal which the Menu's were varied and beautifully prepared and presented. The seats for Grease were included in the price and was well worth seeing. As always Maureen and Micheal were the perfect hosts. Can't wait to return for 'Legally Blonde' in November.
